Silver Alert canceled for Granville County man

Granville County authorities were searching Friday evening for a missing 81-year-old man who is believed to be cognitively impaired.

OXFORD, N.C.UPDATE: 11:46 a.m.: The Silver Alert for a missing Granville County man has been canceled, according to the Granville County Sheirff's Office.

Authorities canceled the alert for Joseph Wesley Smith.

Granville County authorities were searching Friday evening for a missing 81-year-old man who is believed to be cognitively impaired.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday for Joseph “Joe” Wesley Smith, who was last seen at 7522 U.S. Highway 15 North in Oxford.

Smith is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds. He has short black and grey hair, blue eyes, wears glasses and has a hearing aid in each ear.

Authorities said Smith was last seen wearing a tan zip-up jacket, a blue long-sleeve dress shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes with blue socks.

Anyone with information in regards of the whereabouts of Smith is asked to call the Granville County Sheriff’s Office at 919-693-3212.
