Silver Alert issued for Durham teen

Posted November 1, 2012

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Thursday for a missing Durham County teenager.

Alma Iris "Kara" Bartley, 17, was last seen on Fletcher's Chapel Road in Durham.

She is white, has black shoulder-length hair, stands 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She was last seen wearing a purple shirt and purple pants.

Anyone with information about Bartley should call the Durham County Sheriff's Office at 910-560-0900.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

There is nothing listed for her impairment? It says you have to have one in order to get a silver alert. I was just wondering what it was. May be helpful in finding her.

Is she a run away? I hope and pray they find her safe and alive.
