CLAYTON, N.C. — Authorities issued a Silver Alert early Thursday afternoon for a 38-year-old Clayton man who has a cognitive impairment.

Dennis Paul Beavers, of 1060 Hood Farm Road, was last seen at a Food Lion store, off Main Street and U.S. Highway 70.

Beavers is described as a white man, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 245 pounds. He has brown eyes and medium-length brown hair.

He was last seen wearing blue jean shorts, a red sleeveless shirt and brown loafers.

Anyone with information about Beavers' whereabouts should call Lt. C. Strickland, with the Johnston County Sheriff's Office, at 919-989-5000.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
