CLAYTON, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Sunday afternoon for a 65-year-old Clayton man.

Richard Alexander Biever is white, stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes and is possibly wearing a red T-shirt and jeans, police said.

Biever was last seen on Walnut Creek Drive in Clayton. A photo was not immediately available.

Anyone with information about Biever should call the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-4611.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered people who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
