RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Thursday for a 15-year-old girl missing in Raleigh.

Arielle Renee Williams-Stevenson is black, stands 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 90 pounds. She has medium brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing gray shorts and a black Adidas hooded sweatshirt.

She was last seen on Carolina Avenue in Raleigh.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered people who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
