HALIFAX, N.C. — A Silver Alert issued early Friday for a 21-year-old Halifax woman believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment has been canceled, authorities said.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Deidra Latrice Robinson around 3 a.m. Friday morning, but was canceled around 10 a.m.

It wasn't immediately clear why the alert was issued.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
