Wilson, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons canceled a Silver Alert on Wednesday for 19-year-old Wilson man.
The alert was issued on Tuesday for Matthew John Gardner, who suffers from several mental health problems. He left Le'chris Behavioral Health Services, at 2707 Wooten Blvd. in Wilson, around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Authorities said Gardner was found around 9 a.m. Wednesday on the 100 block of Jones Street. He was taken to the Wilson Medical Center for evaluation.
Developed in 2007, the Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.
It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
