— The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons on Wednesday canceled a Silver Alert that was issued Tuesday for a Wilson County man.

Wilson police said Otis Lee Witherspoon, 63, who suffers from dementia, was found safe. They did not provide further details.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

More information could be helpful, such as does he drive? If so, what kind of vehicle? Is he in a nursing home/assisted care facility? If so, which one/what area? Any idea of where he may be heading to if he were going somewhere (such as family in a surrounding town/area)?
