— The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons canceled a Silver Alert Monday for a 61-year-old Wake County man.

The alert was issued Saturday for William Hollis Jones.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

Is there any way to turn off these Silver Alerts so their articles don't show up on the WRAL homepage? They seem to popup like unwanted ads. Eventually, someone will write a piece of software called Silver Alert Blocker. No one seriously takes notice and looks for these people except for the authorities. Its NOT working. Just more clutter on the WRAL homepage.
