— The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has canceled a Silver Alert for James Anthony Owens, 47, who is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.

Owens was reported missing early Tuesday from 2704 Meridian Park in Greenville.

No information was released about how he was found or what his condition was.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system that quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

Oh, and if he is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment, WHY does he have a gun, WHY does he have a license (assumption) to drive?

Another Silver Alert! Where are the person(s) or agency that should be supervising the folks that are "believed to be" suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment? And why is it "believed to be," shouldn’t this be known of somebody, especially at 47 and worthy of an alert? You never hear about State/County Social Services investigating these "people" that simply walk away.
