— Authorities on Wednesday afternoon canceled a Silver Alert for a 74-year-old Durham man.

The alert was issued Wednesday morning for James Russell Jr. after he failed to return to his group home after leaving Durham Regional Hospital on Tuesday night.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

The alert has been cancelled. So has this man been found?

Praying that they find him soon. People like this should be watched more often than families do.

Darius, how would you feel if it was one of your loved ones? That was such an insensitive and hateful thing to say!

If he was in a group home, why was he by his self at the hospital? Someone needs their license pulled.

poor man - if someone is that bad off, they don't need to be discharged from a hospital and left to get on a bus. Why wasn't the group home notified and sent to get him?
