CARY, N.C. — The N.C. Center for Missing Persons on Wednesday issued a Silver Alert for a missing endangered man, then canceled it shortly after when he was found.

Derrick Windley Carswell was reported missing Wednesday evening after he was last seen at 1420 Holt Road.

He was found safe just before 9 p.m. at the Healing Place, authorities said.

Developed in 2007, the Silver Alert system notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
