UPDATE: The Silver Alert for Dontay D. Jones was canceled early Monday. Authorities did not provide details.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Sunday for a 22-year-old man last seen in Cary.

Dontay D. Jones is black, stand 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen on Normandy Street wearing a black and white hooded sweatshirt, purple shirt, jeans and blue and white sneakers.

Anyone with information about Jones should call the Cary Police Department at 919-469-4012.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered people who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
