SANFORD, N.C. — A man was killed in an alcohol-related crash in Lee County.

Alejandrino Cruz De La Cruz, of Siler City, died Saturday night in the head-on collision.

It happened just before 8 p.m. on N.C. Highway 87, about two miles south of Sanford.

The Highway Patrol said that a 2000 Dodge pick-up truck driven by Donald Ray Harness Jr. crossed the center line, hitting the 2000 Isuzu in which Cruz was a passenger.

Cruz, 31, was killed.

Harness, 36, was taken by helicopter to UNC Hospitals, where he was listed in fair condition. The driver of the Isuzu received minor injuries.

Alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending, troopers said.
