— A man was killed in an alcohol-related crash in Lee County.

Alejandrino Cruz De La Cruz, of Siler City, died Saturday night in the head-on collision.

It happened just before 8 p.m. on N.C. Highway 87, about two miles south of Sanford.

The Highway Patrol said that a 2000 Dodge pick-up truck driven by Donald Ray Harness Jr. crossed the center line, hitting the 2000 Isuzu in which Cruz was a passenger.

Cruz, 31, was killed.

Harness, 36, was taken by helicopter to UNC Hospitals, where he was listed in fair condition. The driver of the Isuzu received minor injuries.

Alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending, troopers said.

My first comment was not posted. Thanks WRAL. Let me do this different.

Anyone who drinks and drives and is finally caught needs the vehicle along with the keys taken. You are not stable and your vision is certainly not clear. You probably cannot stand up straight let on sit without leaning over. This person deserves to spend about 15 years in prison. Tired of people getting killed, nothing much is done about it; either. Also, if someone is allowing this drink and drive person to drive their vehicle they should spend equal time in prison. I hope this get published. Again thanks.
