— A 24-year-old Siler City firefighter died early Tuesday morning in a car accident while he was responding to a call.

Joshua Woods was driving south on Silk Hope Road just after 1 a.m. in response to an EMS call, according to the Town of Siler City Fire Department. Woods' vehicle crossed the center line, overcorrected and traveled off the southbound shoulder of the road. The vehicle struck a ditch and then two trees, the department said.

It certainly is tragic. First responders, "even volunteers", should be taught the same driving techniques as law enforcement.

My cousins girlfriend is in the same department as the deceased. They are all pretty tore up about this. RIP Joshua, and many prayers for his family.
