Shoppers line up for Black Friday deals

When the doors finally opened at Best Buy in Cary, brothers Thomas Ritter and Chris Medina had been waiting outside for 24-hours.

“I’m not tired though, I am energized,” said Medina.

The pair, who were first in line, took turns sleeping in the car. Ritter said the decision to shop on Thursday night will save him hundreds of dollars.

“[I’m getting] a TV and a few games. That’s it,” said Ritter.

Medina wasn’t even planning to shop but came along to keep his brother company.

“I am just with this dude,” said Medina.

Halfway down the line was Val Adams. She waited for more than four hours, knowing that her door buster deal could go bust before she gets inside.

“[I’m] hoping to get the flat screen, 48-inch Toshiba,” said Adams. “There are a lot of people in front of me.”

Heather Stemler and her dad, Mike Carnahan, were near the back, with only a half hour invested in the line.

“We realize we are probably not going to get anything,” said Stemler.

“Theirs is no TV I want enough to camp out,” added Carnahan.

After a long wait, customers parted with their money in a fraction of the time and the TV’s so many people wanted seemed to literally float out of the store.

Many people think that these people should be spending Thanksgiving with family, but in many cases they are.

Ashley Hewitt has come out for the past five years to shop with her mother and grandmother. On Thursday night, she waited outside Target for an iPad. In the meantime, the three generations waited together.

“[My grandmother] comes and enjoys it, loves the bonding time,” said Hewitt.

So how much do shoppers really save when they line up for deals? The ad for the flat screen TV at Best Buy claimed a $280 savings, so those who waited in line for 24-hours saved about $11.50 per hour.
