Runners start the half marathon. Runners took part in the Run Raleigh Half Marathon and 5K Road race in Raleigh on April 14, 2013.

— With the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon coming up soon, it's important to be prepared with the right gear. Here are some local shops with the knowledge and experience to get you race-ready.

 Fleet Feet Sports (locations in Raleigh, North Raleigh, Durham and Carrboro) – These stores are great to get personalized service and attention from employees who care. Even their website has good information, and the stores host community events and training runs.

Capital RunWalk at Cameron Village in Raleigh – This is another store with trained employees and great service. They offer free shoe fitting and gait analysis to find the perfect running shoe, and they have useful running resources on their website.

Inside Out Sports (locations in Cary and Raleigh) – With a focus on running and triathlon gear, Inside Out is popular with serious athletes. They've been around since 1993, so they have a lot of experience outfitting runners with the right gear.

Raleigh Running Outfitters (locations in Raleigh and Cary) – They have a wide array of products, from training and racing shoes to fuel for before, during and after the race. RRO also offers video gait analysis, training programs and clinics.

9th Street Active Feet in Durham – This store puts an emphasis on preventing injury through correctly-fitting shoes and orthotic inserts. Every customer gets a free evaluation to determine his or her individual needs in a running shoe.
