— Tonya Williams, principal of Sherwood Githens Middle School, was named 2015 Principal of the Year for Durham Public Schools on Thursday morning.

Williams is in her third year at the school, after four as principal at Eno Valley Elementary School.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in middle school education from North Carolina Central University and her Master of School Administration from North Carolina State University. She has been a preschool/afterschool care teacher, language arts/social studies teacher and assistant principal. She will now compete at the regional level for the 2015 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year.
