SACRAMENTO, CA — The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting on 53rd Avenue and Steiner Drive in South Sacramento.

Investigators say a man was shot in the shoulder by a Sacramento County deputy after he tried to hide from them in a vacant home.

Deputies tracked that man to a closet after his ex-girlfriend called 911 to report he was outside of her house with a gun tucked into his waistband.

She had a restraining order against him.

When deputies arrived, he was no longer at her home but they found him inside a vacant house he's been known to frequent that's three blocks away in the 5200 block of 53rd Avenue.

Investigators aren't describing his next actions exactly, but they say he did something that made deputies who were clearing the house fear for their lives.

One deputy fired at him, hitting him in the shoulder.

That 38-year-old suspect is now being treated at the hospital.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.

The incident will now be investigated internally and by the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.
