Sheriff: Man embezzled $24,000 from Fayetteville church

Authorities are searching for a man who embezzled more than $24,000 from a Fayetteville church over 11 months.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities are searching for a man who they say embezzled more than $24,000 from a Fayetteville church over 11 months.

Lenial Mertis Brite Jr., 57, is accused of embezzling the $24,108.18 from Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church between February 2015 and January 2016, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. Brite was serving as the church treasurer at the time.
