— A Greene County sheriff's deputy was shot and killed Wednesday evening while responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith told multiple media outlets that John Willis was shot twice around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at a mobile home off U.S. 13 several miles south of Snow Hill.

The shooting happened near N.C. Highway 13 at a Brook Meadows mobile home park, near the Wayne County line, WNCT-TV reported.

Smith says Willis was answering a domestic call when 22-year-old Daniel Meyers came out of the house drunk and angry, shooting the deputy twice.

The sheriff says Meyers then shot and killed himself.

Willis is the third deputy to be killed in the line of duty in the past 15 months in the mostly rural area of North Carolina east of Interstate 95.

The sheriff says Willis leaves behind two children.

"I have also received an email stating that it is outside of WRAL's area so they didnt sent a reporter, and could not put it as a top story for lack of information! I'm tired of the excuses..."---

Of course... Go figure. It's not like they won't travel the state to get the scoop if a Trooper or officer does bad but when it comes to an LEO sacrificing their life, it's out of their area. Awesome.

I am sorry for the family's loss. As for WRAL you need to get your act together. I bet if you were in trouble the first person you would call is the Police or Deputy. The same people you are so fast to drag through the mud. As the bible says he who is without sin cast the first stone!!! Bet you guys are not perfect. Not all Police,Deputys and SHP Officers are bad.

This isn't top news because there's no sex, texts, dirt that WRAL can use to blow up the ratings!!!! It's a shame that the first half of the news is who got shot, robbed, raped, caught with there hand in the cookie jar, etc...anybody ever remember seeing a "citizen of the week" story on the news, me neither! This deceased Deputy deserves a spot at the top of the news for the countless sacrifices he made with minimal pay for me and you. Shame on you WRAL! I bet if he was shot twice because he was having sex with the assailants wife that would be top page material huh! WRAL makes me want to puke.......R.I.P. Deputy, and thanks for what you did for me and others.
