Sheriff: Fayetteville man charged with starving dog

Authorities said that animal control officers responded to a call at 130 Snowhill Church Road on Dec. 23 and found a gray and white Pitbull dead in a dog pen. The dog’s owner, Jason Ronitez Howard, gave the officers permission to remove the dog.
A necropsy performed on the dog, named Grazella, found that she had no trace of food in her stomach or intestines. Other than starvation, examiners found no other health issues that would have caused her death. The 18-month-old dog weight 16 pounds at the time of her death.
Three other Pitbulls were removed from Howard’s home after the findings of the necropsy.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office charged Howard, 37, with felony cruelty to animals. Howard was arrested on Wednesday and released under $10,000 unsecured bond.
After a court hearing on Thursday, a judge remanded Howard into custody of the Sheriff’s Office and he was being held under $25,000 secured bond.
