Sheldon K. Gulinson, president and CEO, Gulinson & Associates LLC

With more than 35 years of health care senior executive experience, Sheldon K. Gulinson has expertise in such areas as inpatient and outpatient operations, post-acute services, managed care, start-ups (both companies and new service lines), turnarounds, marketing and operations improvement.

He has developed and led government and public relations programs for two different hospital associations; in one of those roles he also conceived and led research studies that bolstered the credibility of the organization’s government and public relations programs. He has worked extensively with C-suite level executives, hospital and hospital association boards of directors and physicians and has developed and instituted solutions and initiatives, including joint ventures, that have improved availability, quality and efficiency of health care delivery while also maintaining a focus on patients and employees. He has more than 15 years of experience with the outsourced management of hospital services.

Among his accomplishments are being part of a senior management team that created an industry (the management of diagnostic imaging utilization, cost and quality) where he helped grow revenues from $1 million to $100 million per year and led the attraction of $40 million in investment capital.

In another role he turned a $4 million per year loss into a $4 million per year gain on educational, data and other products and services sold by a major hospital association.

Clients of Gulinson & Associates LLC include a firm focused on creation and successful operation of pay-for-performance/accountable care organization initiatives; a major clinical management outsourcing firm; a technology company that monitors patient adherence and helps reduce inappropriate hospital readmissions and unnecessary use of other healthcare services; a start-up with a cloud-based tool for quickly checking eligibility for third-party coverage in hospital emergency rooms and clinics; and a medical device start-up that manufactures and sells an FDA-approved device for reducing pain and improving circulation.

With a master’s degree in Health Administration from Duke University, he is an affiliate of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), was a founder of the Chicago Area Hospital Planning and Marketing Association and was awarded honorary membership in the Chicago Health Executives Forum. He has been president twice of the Duke University Health and Hospital Administration Alumni Association and has served twice as a member of the Duke University Fuqua School of Business Alumni Council.
