— A man was hospitalized after a freak accident in Sanford.

At about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Scott Allen was fixing a shed at 2700 S. Horner Blvd. when it collapsed, police said. The accident happened at the Shed Depot, a business that builds portable outside buildings.

A helicopter took Allen, 26, of Siler City, to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where doctors listed him in critical condition Wednesday night.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the collapse.

Such a sad loss. Scott was a great guy and I'm glad I can say he was a good friend. Rest in peace Scott. You will be missed. May GOD comfort the family in this time of loss.

Pikemom: All storage buildings are suppposed to be built to NC Residential building code, they should be as safe as your house. I think the problem in this case was the building was probably jacked up and he was underneath it working and it collapsed.

I pray that he is going to be ok.

Does anyone know if this is Scott Allen, Brandy Allen Matthews brother?

  • photos4mueller Jan 31, 2008

The building itself didn't collape. He was working under the building.
