Shaw University student shot as bystander to fight

A Shaw University student, who was a bystander to a fight that spilled off campus Wednesday night, was shot and injured, according to Raleigh police.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Shaw University student, who was a bystander to a fight that spilled off campus Wednesday night, was shot and injured, according to Raleigh police.

The fight began on campus around 9 p.m. and spilled out onto South Street, near Person Street, police said. One person pulled out a shotgun and fired at another person.

Student Terrick Edwards, 20, who police said was not the intended target, was struck by bird shot pellets. Friends transported Edwards to WakeMed Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Investigators said they were talking to witnesses and working to identify a suspect.
