— A Shaw University student, who was a bystander to a fight that spilled off campus Wednesday night, was shot and injured, according to Raleigh police.

The fight began on campus around 9 p.m. and spilled out onto South Street, near Person Street, police said. One person pulled out a shotgun and fired at another person.

Student Terrick Edwards, 20, who police said was not the intended target, was struck by bird shot pellets. Friends transported Edwards to WakeMed Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Investigators said they were talking to witnesses and working to identify a suspect.

Ok, lets get this straight. I am a senior at Shaw University and it makes me sick that people think of the school the way they do because of its location and the students that they accept. We are just like any other school, HBCU or not, we all have our problems. But people are so quick to put Shaw out there as a bad school and that is not the case. Shaw has graduated some of the top lawyers, doctors, singers, and athletes throughout North Carolina. So stop looking at the school for what has happened but look at the school as a place that will give students a chance to better themselves.

    Phrostbite, sup frat (?)

Actually Shaw is extremely cheap when compared to peer institutions. If they were to up the tuition by a thousand or two, they could afford to do a lot of renovations and upkeep.

From 45MPH, a vehicle stops (completely) in 196'. (see chart at bottom: www.csgnetwork.com/stopdistinfo.html )

There is easily 2 or 3 times this visibility here...for a complete stop...not a life-taking crash like this.

We just cannot ignore that fact that some people still manage to kill themselves (and their passengers) at RR crossings that have flashing lights, ringing bells and arms that block their way. Some people just don't get it...not matter what IT is.

Ha, I though campus' are a gun-free zone? Never seems to work.. but the anti-gun nuts love it

This isn't surprising. Because of it's location & it's low academic standards, Shaw attracts some rif-raff. HOWEVER, the majority of the students at Shaw are young people trying to get their education so they can become productive, law abiding citizens. It's obscene how much they are paying for their degrees, but that's neither here nor there.

eric52272, you're welcome. I usually show interest in bigots.

So, why don't you re-read the GOLO Terms of Service and figure out a way (you know, use yer brain) to say what you allude to? Can you do that? Or, are you too ashamed that you think that crime is based on skin color...like your family & friends taught you.

Oops...see, I just did it. I just let your big "dark" secret out. Now, you try. ;-)
