Someone needs to tell him that he no longer have a say. The people of the courts once he gets there will decide his fate called a jury.

  • wildcat May 18, 4:19 p.m.

has requested his release while awaiting trial.

No! No! He should remain in jail until his court date. Turning him lose would be a big mistake. Also he could do this to another child and no one would want that. Keep this child abuser/murderer locked up and off the streets.

  • shemontay May 18, 2:33 p.m.

wow i cant believe he even has the audacity to ask to be released. After the uncivilized way he murdered a five year old baby. Really! and even his picture has this smurk about it. Not to mention I dont agree with the fact the mother is free and walking around. You got to be kidding me.

  • brwneyez70 May 18, 2:15 p.m.

She needs to be locked away with him! I hold her jus as responsible as him! I try to avoid this story bc this REALLY get's me mad. I have a daughther & I know what I would have have done! Forget a judge or juror bc I'd save the taxpayers a lot of money! 518/1415

  • Strawberry Letter 23 Beth Wilson May 18, 2:07 p.m.

I think this man SHOULD be released. THEN, let whoever gets hold of him, have a free for all; do whatever they like, as long as they like. Then, give another good citizen an opportunity. Keep on keepin' on! LOL!

    Beth

  • kjb123 May 18, 1:57 p.m.

I wonder if Shaniya's family is aware of this. Antoinette is walking free and no harm has come her way, which amazes me. Once he is convicted he'll be put in the general population and so will the "mom". Be patient everyone they will get theirs. Just keep praying for Shaniya's justice.

  • mgilchrist May 18, 1:56 p.m.

He needs to just shut up and stay in Central Prison without a trial. Should just hang him like China better yet send him to Iraq and put him on the front line. That poor baby didn't have a chance I life why should he...

  • Vietnam Vet May 18, 1:52 p.m.

Release him??? WHY on earth would we want to do that? He's off the streets and in my mind exactly where he needs to be!!

  • slantedeyes May 18, 1:50 p.m.

This is no doubt a horrible and cruel crime and me being a mother of three small children in my personal opinion believe that child molesters and killers should have the harshes sentences because these babies are innocent and these animals prey on them. However for certain groups you are guilty until proven innocent which is a travesty of justice the state needs to get it together do their job and prove he is a murder and a rapist and we can rest easier knowing The system is working the way it was created to work

  • jennylock2004 May 18, 1:48 p.m.

It still sickens me to see their faces. She is just as guilty of murder. I couldnt imaging sending my precious innocent 5 yr old daughter with a man for sex. SO SICK!

  • whocares May 18, 1:15 p.m.

    Well said tm6983.

  • tm6983 May 18, 12:58 p.m.

As a black woman, I must disagree with insinuations that this has anything to do with his race or social class. Its more about the process of the judicial/criminal court system. I doubt seriously his race is a major factor. It doesnt matter if he would have been white, black, yellow, purple - what he did was horrendous, and I think they are just delaying going to court because the prosecuation wants to get all their ducks in a row, so when they go to trial, its NO DOUBT of his conviction. Everything isnt always about race.

  • HaterRater May 18, 12:53 p.m.

...and to ProudBlackSingleMother...In my personal opinion, it doesn't matter what his financial status or the color of his skin is...he raped and murdered a child!!!!! What part of that are you not getting?? Again...maybe he just move in with you and you can tell us in 6 months what and how you really feel about this monster!

  • naturegirl May 18, 12:46 p.m.

"Nobody should languish in Central Prison without charges for any period of time. This is a travesty of justice. If he was not poor and black, this would not happen."

I think the security camera pictures showing him carrying her into a hotel room - the same one reported to be where she was killed - would indicate he poses a threat to society. If he were white would you still think holding him in jail was a travesty of justice?

  • obx_native13 May 18, 12:42 p.m.

The easiest thing to do is to hurry up and find him guilty and stick a needle in his arm, directly beside the mother of that beautiful child.

  • smegma May 18, 12:42 p.m.

ProudBlackSingleMother (of course you have to include "black") : they have him on a camera carrying the girl into a hotel room. if i had my choice there wouldn't be a trial

  • scarletindurham May 18, 12:39 p.m.

How about we just hurry up and get his trial over with and sentence him to death and carry it out swiftly? Can I press the button?!

  • Frank Downtown May 18, 12:37 p.m.

They really shouldn't hold him without charges. His safety should be his own!

  • Lab mom May 18, 12:36 p.m.

ProudBlackSIngleMother: Would you be comfortable with him living in your neighborhood?

  • cariannestanley May 18, 12:13 p.m.

you can best believe we will be supporting this AH for the next however many years until somebody does him in.........what a life - I really honestly believe that some of these people go into prison for a "vacation." ha ha

  • ProudBlackSingleMother May 18, 12:08 p.m.

He should be released, until the Grand Jury indicts him... if they even do.

If the Prosecutor convened a special grand jury, I would not be saying this.

Nobody should languish in Central Prison without charges for any period of time. This is a travesty of justice. If he was not poor and black, this would not happen.

  • JustmyopinionNC May 18, 12:03 p.m.

they should go ahead and give him the injection now but instead we (taxpayers) will have to cover the cost of medical care, 3 square meals a day and cable for him to watch for the next 30+ years...all things this poor little girl never had the chance to have.
Oh I bet he can't afford an attorney...guess we get to pay for his defense too.

  • Ven May 18, 12:02 p.m.

I'm sure this is his 'plea' that he will be killed or kill himself. Pretty sure he doesn't have the ability to do the latter (too much of a coward). And why let someone else go to jail for doing the dirty work for him...release him into gereral population might be a good idea.

  • jaydosse May 18, 11:57 a.m.

'Release me'. He must be trying to figure out how to use an insanity plea. if he is found guilty he should hopefully get life without parole. Rot in the devil's dungeon!!!!

  • scientistjo May 18, 11:48 a.m.

Nah, it's pretty easy keeping you right there in that hole.

  • sjb2k1 May 18, 11:43 a.m.

    hahaha what a joke.

  • Outforjustice May 18, 11:42 a.m.

Theonlyregina...I thought the same thing. This coward wants to kill himself or be killed at the hands of another. I concur with your comment and couldn't have said it better myself!!!

  • nano May 18, 11:33 a.m.

    Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

  • JimFink May 18, 11:10 a.m.

Self inflicted death by a pen or pencil would require a lot of guts, and he has none.

  • yidith2003 May 18, 11:08 a.m.

there is honor among thieves not child rapist and killers lock him up with the general population! He will find out quickly what he put that poor girl through! seems there may be justice in our justice system

  • JimFink May 18, 11:07 a.m.

I agree with tm6983. The first thought that popped into my head when I read "Release me. It's easiset," was that this man may want to commit suicide or allow himself to be killed by someone in the public. He was on camera with Shaniya, and so it's clear that at the very least he knows exactly how that angel died. He hasn't been proven guilty yet (but I'm confident he will). Maybe his guilty conscience is getting the best of him and he just wants an easy out. I think he did it. I think he's a coward, and I hope he suffers. A child killer will never be cured or rehabilitated.

  • FromClayton May 18, 11:03 a.m.

law-abiding citizen and tax payer: NO.

  • tm6983 May 18, 10:51 a.m.

    tovaresoates

Amen! He isnt a *total* lamebrain..he knows how the streets work...and he knows there is NO WAY he would have ANY kind of quality life outside. So, thinking along the lines of that logic, it would seem that he just wants to die and wants out of jail because he doesnt have ability to do so. To the person who said he may have just killed himself with the pen or pencil - I kinda agree with that too...only I think he's too cowardly and dullwitted as to be so creative to use those devices. He'd probably rather just shoot himself - after all, it would be the "easiest" way.

  • miyata May 18, 10:39 a.m.

tova - he ain't gonna commit suicide. If he wanted to do that, he could have killed himself with the pencil or pen he used to write the letter...JAT

    TRUE!

  • same ole story May 18, 10:31 a.m.

I say put him in the back of a cruiser and take him past all the fast food restuants to get a real good smell of the food. Then to the park to see the people having fun and playing. past the mall to see all those people living care free and happy then to top it off straight to central prisons cell open the door and kick him out. The slam of the prison cell door should be ringing in his ears for the next 30 years to life!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TheAdmiral May 18, 10:15 a.m.

Here is his answer and his sign:

    No.

  • ndadszucs May 18, 10:12 a.m.

    tm6983:

Exact same thing I thought when I first heard about this last night. Of course, he just wants someone to kill him, quickly.

  • kellypratz May 18, 10:03 a.m.

Why is there no justice for these victims? why do the criminals sit in jail for years when they should be paying for what they've done. This poor child's young life was taken away because of a mother who was uncaring and should not be walking the streets and this man if he is GUILTY should not be breathing. The US is too tolerant for child killers and molesters, this needs to change. We need to protect our children.

  • Glass Half Full May 18, 10:02 a.m.

Nobody's harmed Antoinette Davis - she's been free for months. Who would harm Mario McNeill? People helped him hide from the police. I guess he's hungry for some other cute little 5 year old or something equally disgusting.

  • bloodystinch May 18, 9:46 a.m.

oh boo hoo, you're actually being kept safely tucked away from the Cumberland County Jail. You're probably a lot safer in Raleigh than you are on the streets; there are still a lot of people who are angry about this.

  • Gen1 May 18, 9:27 a.m.

Why should he have the easy way out. He did not give her that option. Let him rot in jail until his execution which should be painful and long.

  • goode88 May 18, 9:20 a.m.

Compressed Air 2 you state ",Believe it or not, NC does not have a statute requiring a speedy trial." Well ummm the sixth admendment takes care of that. But as is case for murder that speedy trial can be stretched quite a bit.

  • jafarmg2 May 18, 9:18 a.m.

He is exactly where he needs to be...for the rest of his life. I do not have one once of sympathy for a man who raped and killed a 5 year old girl.

  • JAT May 18, 9:10 a.m.

tova - he ain't gonna commit suicide. If he wanted to do that, he could have killed himself with the pencil or pen he used to write the letter.

  • tm6983 May 18, 9:06 a.m.

RB - you're right, he is a coward. Thats partly though, why I do think he wants to commit suicide or be murdered because death is an escape.

No, I want him to keep having to do exactly what he’s doing now, which is THINK AND ROT. Stew in his own destructive juices. You know that child probably comes to him in the night, he’s probably scared to close his eyes from thoughts and visions of her.

Of course, I'm just hypothesizing here, but I think that’s why he doesn’t want to stay in prison, because he does not want to have to think about it anymore. That is torture. And if he gets the death penalty, that’s torture too, sitting there on the row, for all those years, knowing your death is on its way.

He was probably high and coked up during that time he murdered her, and now that he has "come down" reality and the realization of what a piece of scum he is has really sunken in to him. What a slimeball. And as an African-American, as well as a human, I am not only ashamed to shar

  • Father-T May 18, 9:01 a.m.

If those who don't understand his message, he is simply telling the judicial system he is wanting to commit suicide. He knows the streets will take his life- the day he is release..Sad thing is even his associates will do it. Case closed

  • RB aka Spirit Warrior Woman May 18, 8:52 a.m.

NCState - "He is not guilty yet, and apparently they don't have much evidence of guilt or else they might have indicted him already."

We've seen the video of him carrying the child into the hotel room.

Then there's another video of him leaving WITHOUT the child.

    I'm convinced.

  • RB aka Spirit Warrior Woman May 18, 8:51 a.m.

tm6983 - "OK, everyone does realize, that if you read between the lines, he wants to be released to either commit suicide, or allow himself to be killed? I think thats what he means. Of course he knows its not "easier" in the sense of the judicial process....he means, "easier" as in taking his punishment."

    We could only hope.

Personally, I think the guy's too much of a coward to commit suicide.

He didn't even have the hutzpa to be with a grown woman. He took a 5-year old girl to satisfy his cravings, then he smothered her.

  • kjb123 May 18, 8:50 a.m.

I am from Michigan and have been following this tragic story for the past 2 years. I'm wondering though easiest for what or who? What does that even mean? This piece of trash has the nerve to actually make a request. It's bad enough Shaniya's dope fene "mom" is walking free 4 the moment. I just pray that Shaniya gets the justice she deserves. I will never 4get this story and every morning I wake up I tell Shaniya I'm sorry this happened to her.

  • tm6983 May 18, 8:49 a.m.

*Didnt get to finish my comment below*

Think about it…he doesn’t want to be released to live happily until his trial. He knows there are plenty of people out here just waiting to get their hands on him. If he could, he would probably commit suicide in jail right now, but I’m sure due to being in protective custody, they don’t just protect him from other inmates, but from HIMSELF as well (ie, suicide watch).

He wants to be released so he can kill himself, or get the life taken out of him by someone else. Can you imagine – this man has sat in jail since November of ’09 with nothing to do or think about except what he did to that poor sweet child. I am sure it has not done anything good for his sanity or state of mind.

Look at his face on recent pics....you can see this has hit him hard. He doesn’t have that smirk anymore. He knows he is right up there with Bin Laden and Saddam as far as MOST HATED MEN.
