Meeker-"what a joke. all these magazines and their meaningless rankings. bring your businesses here, bring 'em on. and when you get here, for those who need the public education system be warned, you won't like what you find.

Let me get this straight. We shouldn't believe national magazines such as Forbes (a conservative magazine) and Businessweek (which rated some Triangle schools as the best value in the nation recently)even though they use important things like data and evidence. But we should believe you that everything here is bad based on....?????

what a joke. all these magazines and their meaningless rankings. bring your businesses here, bring 'em on. and when you get here, for those who need the public education system be warned, you won't like what you find. it's not all rosy as the tabloids would lead you to believe. as for this state's leadership, again, be warned. be very warned. we're about to move to 2nd on all lists for highest taxes in the country, right behind CA.

yep, come on down, we'd love to have you.

I'm not surprised, given this state's penchant for corruption and corporate tax breaks.

...and NC is dead last in Worker's Rights.

This story is dog do-do. Either that, or the other states are much worse off than our state is.

"This shows that the hard work of the past year has paid off"

Well.... If you are taking all the credit for this report... then what credit will you absorb in relation to next years multi-billion dollar budget shortfall?

Be careful when claiming good news as your own.

And the whining begins again. Man. The same complainers modifying the posts to fit the article du jour. Save time complainers, cut and paste. It is all the same regurgitated rants over and over again anyways. Wonder why there aren't any high paying jobs? No one wants to pay a bunch of cry baby complainers. If you're this bad in text form, can only image how much you whine in real life.

If Bush was still prez, I'll bet you Republicans would have seen this as good news.

Rose colored glasses for sure....this entire country is in horrible shape!!! We keep borrowing money and truly we are an owned country more than a self supporting entity now. I cannot imagine how it is going to be for my great grandchildren if this trend continues!!! I love the USA but is it failing!!!

#9 for growth prospects equals #32 for quality of life.More Dam@ people moving here, destroying what open land(fields, woods)this state has left and traffic problems out the wazoo.Maybe this state was good 30 years ago,now it's just like most now, crowding, noisy, and not really a happy place to be,and our families have lived here forever, where not state jumpers...

    The Appalachian Trail effect.

"#32 in quality of life. Perhaps that has something to do with taxing the snot out of us."

No, we're taxed pretty lightly actually. With taxes come services.

N.C. ranks third best as state for business, careers, Forbes says

Careers? this country is in trouble

Anyone read the article at localtechwire.com?
Make book, folks, the new study from Portfolio.com is NOT one that will be touted by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, the Research Triangle Regional Partnership or anyone else who touts the capital city metro area as one of the nation’s best.

Raleigh ranks 98th(!!!) out of the top 100 U.S. metro areas over the last 25 years for income growth, says a new study from Portfolio.com.

Are you shocked? Well, here’s more grim news: Detroit, which is on its way to becoming an urban ghost town in some areas, is 99th.

Dead last is Atlanta at 100.

    Charlotte ranks 96th.

    Greensboro, meanwhile, is 94th.

Looks as if the “Rust Belt” has spread south.

May be first place for businesses but, where do employees stand? HHMMM? How many Companies have flown the coup after their tax incentives run out? HMMMMM? How much lost revenue, that the state so desperately needs (or so they say) has been lost? Why are the hard working taxpayers force to pay tax upon tax to line Politicians pockets and support their pet projects and special interests? What will they do when people get desperate because they aren't doing enough to keep the jobs in NC? What will the people do? Why are there always more women in management positions and males are allowed to be discriminated against?

I know, it's a lot of questions and most posters think they know it all. Especially, the ones who work the Government.

We're a country going in reverse.
