Some of yall have much better investigative techniques than the police. . because you're apparently convinced that the fiance' killed the girl, even thought there is no motive and it's downright illogical. As I stated earlier, read the Campus Echo, or even the Herald Sun version of the story. WRAL's stories, as usual, have just enough slant to keep you coming back reading instead of presenting things as cut and dry.

  • aknight Feb 24, 9:30 a.m.

I don't really think the young lady did the killer along, I do believe Mr dude was in on this murder, but if he was it will come to light and I hope they fry his but. These officers are out here to protect the public and they are just as guilty for breaking the law as everybody else. But because they wear these badges they are not being investigated like other citizens but God will have the last saying. I really sympatize with both of the young ladies, but I do hope if anyone else was involved the truth will come out

  • issymayake Feb 23, 5:02 p.m.

read the reports wildcat. . .he and Crawley had broken off their relationship in 2005 after the abortion. She was stalking the couple and tried to frame him for rape and the murder. Fatal attraction style.

Please read the Campus Echo version of the testimony. . it's much more comprehensive than the WRAL version.

Chole said "This will be on Snapped"

You are right. I will be give it about a year (maybe 2) before it is aired.

  • Tired of thoughtlessness Feb 23, 3:12 p.m.

    wildcat,
Are you reading? Her last name is Crawley, and she is 28.

Not sure who the 30 year old Crowley is.

  • Tired of thoughtlessness Feb 23, 3:10 p.m.

Please recognize that this was over several years.
If it was over, then why did he continue to have a sexual relationship with Crowley? This was very wrong and misleading. Wasn't it?
    wildcat

You are so intent on posting with yourself, that you are not reading.
The relationship(s) lasted off and on for several years.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 3:07 p.m.

Pray for all our young people - male and females that they will listen and make good choices.

  • Tired of thoughtlessness Feb 23, 3:06 p.m.

Why was she crying hysterically if she just killed her rival?

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:59 p.m.

Stephens denied a request by Crawley's attorney for a mistrial.

Crowley tried all angles to be free but in the end she was found guilty of first degree murder.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:54 p.m.

Vote before the story will be gone from Golo.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:53 p.m.

Maybe what set Crowley off was the abortion. She said the police offier was there with her doing the abortion; which was supposed to be the officer's child. Then she finds out about Denita. Then the jealousy sits in once she realize the officer and Denita was engaged. Then Crowly decided to end Smith life so she could have the officer. It did not work. I believe she see that now.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:49 p.m.

Please recognize that this was over several years.

If it was over, then why did he continue to have a sexual relationship with Crowley? This was very wrong and misleading. Wasn't it?

  • Hans Feb 23, 2:49 p.m.

"their was never any proof of evidence that he killed Ms. Denita Smith."

Well, evidence IS usually obtained through investigation, is it not? Since he was never investigated, it's hardly surprising there was no evidence.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:48 p.m.

Denita and Jermier dated on and off for nearly seven years.

Why was this? Because of his fooling around with other women, and eventually cost the late Ms. Denita Smith's life? He is not all of that; even now.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:43 p.m.

Mrs. Smith needs to forgive Crowley as Jesus forgives us all. She will be able to move on in her life. Forgiving is the key and remember she will be locked up in prison for her consequences of crime. Crowley is now paying the price.

  • issymayake Feb 23, 2:42 p.m.

    wildcat,

Please recognize that this was over several years. . . Denita and Jermier dated on and off for nearly seven years. People, especially young people, break up and get distracted in that time period.

Point is, he didn't commit a crime. She did.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:35 p.m.

As these children grow up to be adults, how will they look at their mother who will be still sitting in prison growing older by day? Will they visit her in their adult life? Time will tell. It also depends how they are being raised now.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:32 p.m.

Doing all of this, Crowley lost her home and her children. Who will now step up to the plate and care and love them? She never gave a thought to that, did she?

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:29 p.m.

GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY - LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE. SHE WILL NEVER GET OUT OF PRISON!!

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:28 p.m.

odd that the cop was never investigated?

He was nver at the scene of the crime and their was never any proof of evidence that he killed Ms. Denita Smith. Crowley did that by herself.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:23 p.m.

She kept changing her story is how she convicted herself to life in prison.

  • sweet4you Feb 23, 2:20 p.m.

jsut another example of a no good man trying to get over on women. He need to fry for this as well for he is as guilty as the shooter. what a scum bag he is. too bad these ladies didn't see it before it was too late. A man is not worth the pain and anguish of killing him, just leave the joker

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:16 p.m.

Crowley did all she could to have this man, now she will not have no man. She learned a very hard lesson.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:10 p.m.

Jealosy as the courts discovered was the whole root of this murder. Crowley just took it too far and will not spend her life in prison forever. She is only 30 and will grow old in prison and die. Sad but very true. Praying for her.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:09 p.m.

    I know she didn't do

You was not there doing the crime. Apparently you did not know Crowley as well as you thought you did. Now you know the other side of her.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:05 p.m.

The police officer had no reason to kill the girl he was engaged to. But on the otherhand, Crowley was the one who stalk him. Except the facts of her prison confinement for life and move on. Pray for her for in prison she will need it.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:03 p.m.

girl is going to Prison for something that I know she didn't do

She is GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY in the first degree of the killing of the late Ms. Denita Smith. Now she is facing her consequences.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 2:02 p.m.

Can anybody tell me why we should care about this woman??????
    skcuslarw

Well it is so sad to see so many young people continue to get in trouble of crime and wind up in prison. That is not a life for anyone. Will these young people ever learn? I doubt it. The trouble is most do not care to listen to anyone. They think they know it all. In this case, Crowley is a mother, and did not give her children the first thought. The first thought was this slease of a police officer. Most mothers put their child first. Parents talk to your children so they will never wind up in prison. Its not fun being in prison. I pray they will listen to you.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 1:59 p.m.

They've dated as long as I've known them. Just like most young men, he messed up and got with another girl, but Denita was his heart.
    issymayake

Love! WOW. Apparently he did not love Denita enough to stay away from Crowley even since he was engaged. He is a slease and not worthy for any young lady to be involved with. He is not all that. Too bad the late Denita Smith did not see that.

  • skcuslarw Feb 23, 1:58 p.m.

    Hello, why should we care!!!!

  • skcuslarw Feb 23, 1:57 p.m.

Can anybody tell me why we should care about this woman??????

  • wildcat Feb 23, 1:55 p.m.

these days it is a shame that this girl is going to Prison for something that I know she didn't do

One day you will except the facts of evidence that Crowley killed the innocent girl. The police officer did not. There was not proof except Crowley pointing fingers at him to save herself. But it did not work. The jury saw through her. Good job jury and courts.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 1:53 p.m.

man stated that he saw the lady leaving the complex and a man hiding in the back cargo area. #2.

Not true. The maintenance said he saw her but was unclear whether he saw a man in the back cargo area.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 1:52 p.m.

If Crowley felt she was done wrong in the relationship, she should have went for the police officer, the person who was dating both girls. But instead she chose a girl she did not even know. I hope other young ladies will learn from this. Its not worth it and learn to walk away.

  • wildcat Feb 23, 1:50 p.m.

Crowley received exactly what she should have - life in prison with no parole. She did not know how to move on and yet killed a girl that did not even know her. Now she will have plenty of time to think about her actions. She never gave thought to her children. Now they will grow up without having a mother. Pray for them and their mother. As for as the police officer, I believe all ladies should stay far away from him. He is nothing but trouble.

  • bless 4 me Feb 23, 1:19 p.m.

This is truly a sad situation that could have been avoided. While Ms. Crowley must take responsibility for her actions, the Fiance was also in the wrong. Why must the female almost always go after the other female. He is still here and probably had someone if not @ the time, shortly therafter.

  • warrk21 Feb 23, 1:17 p.m.

  • ANGELLUV Feb 23, 1:11 p.m.

Okay...I tried to remain silent but I can't. I just do not believe that this lady killed Danita. Here are the following reasons:
#1. In the beginnning the maintenance man stated that he saw the lady leaving the complex and a man hiding in the back cargo area.
#2. How can the chief say that he did not know that a cop on his force was being investigated...Ms. Crawly worked for 911 so she was in communication with the police force and was the girlfriend of an officer. I think and internal investigation needs to be done about that one.
#3. Who was the man on the tape that admitted to killing someone.

Come on now....we have so much technology these days it is a shame that this girl is going to Prison for something that I know she didn't do....based on my OWN investigation!

  • Hans Feb 23, 12:39 p.m.

"Hans - Are you friends with or related to Ms. Crawley (the convicted killer)? You have really pushed the boyfriend issue"

Don't know her. The defense was also pushing the issue.Do you not find it odd that the cop was never investigated?

"I'm just saying SHE was judged by a jury of her peers and was convicted."

So was Greg Taylor. So was Levon Jones. So was Larry Lamb. So was Dwayne Dail. So was Glen Chapman. You get the picture. I mean, really... how can anyone have faith in our criminal injustice system after recent events?

"I just struggle with the accusation that wives and girlfriends are assumed killed by their husbands or boyfriends"

Like it or not, that is exactly who is statistically most likely to have killed them. So, why wasn't the one in this case investigated? I think it's a perplexing question.

"There are crazy women out there and some are just wacked enough to kill an old flame's new love."

Of course there are. Was that the case this time? Who knows?

  • Ladybug1 Feb 23, 12:14 p.m.

Like I said before, I'm not his shrink. Maybe she had something on him. Maybe he just likes to kill. There are plenty of possibilities. Are you denying that there are far too many examples of men killing their wives/girlfriends? Are you a "Snapped" watcher, too?
    Hans

Hans - Are you friends with or related to Ms. Crawley (the convicted killer)? You have really pushed the boyfriend issue. No, I am not denying that far too many men kill women. I'm just saying SHE was judged by a jury of her peers and was convicted. I just struggle with the accusation that wives and girlfriends are assumed killed by their husbands or boyfriends, sterotyping stinks in any situation. There are crazy women out there and some are just wacked enough to kill an old flame's new love. They think that will eliminate the problem they had with the ex. And yes, I have seen SNAPPED.

  • Hans Feb 23, 10:37 a.m.

"I agree with you Prancy. Having suggested the same thing last week, I was quickly informed by Hans that Boyfriends and Husbands kill their girlfriends/wives all the time. Hans even states that again here. Maybe Hans thinks he knows the boyfriend had a motive and what it was. Care to enlighten us Hans?

  • sweetnsour13 Feb 23, 9:34 a.m.

The tapes authenticity were question by the DEFENDANT'S own lawyer and HE did not want them introduced into evidence. While the tape could cause some doubt (not reasonable doubt), you have to look at the whole body of evidence.

It's obvious they believed the maintenance guy's testimony that he saw a woman leaving the scene and stopped this same woman to ask if she heard a gunshot. The Maintenance guy was the ONLY independent witness and probably the only one they found most credible.

  • Tired of thoughtlessness Feb 23, 9:13 a.m.

I would have thought the tapes created reasonable doubt. Also that she was shot from a distance, and there was only one shot fired. Now, I have never shot a gun, same as this woman says, so I am thinking it would have taken more than one shot for someone who does not know how?

  • vsusu2002 Feb 23, 9:06 a.m.

This is such a sad case for everyone involved. Ms. Smith lost her life because of a man and Ms. Crawley will spend the rest of her life behind bars because of a man. It (the killing) wasn't worth it at all.

I can't help but wonder how does Mr. Stroud feels knowing because of his actions (dating both woman) this crime occurred.

  • coolwill43 Feb 23, 9:06 a.m.

What was the evidence, she needed a different attorney. The cop needs to be investigated. The mom may have wished the wrong person to rot in hell. However this is NC court system (I think he did it, there for he did), may I remind you that they just released a man from prison by a panel of judges. And they have had a person on death row that they had to release, that was in jail the time of that murder. NC court system is a joke. Did they fine the murder weapon was here prints on it, what about powder burns.

  • Lightfoot3 Feb 23, 9:00 a.m.

“Did the state offer evidence of the projectory of the bullet? They should have been able to determine the height of the shooter by that.” - Prancy

You’re right. But I think the stairwell would have complicated the matter a bit. If the results showed a tall shooter, the DA would have just claimed the lady shooter was on a step above the victim. I wonder about the evidence at the scene. I don’t think the scene was properly analyzed. Remember they didn’t even report she had been shot until after the doctor said it.

Sounds like they set their sights on the lady as the guilty party and that’s what they stuck to, without considering any other angles. That’s typical. A DA only wants to get a conviction. If it happens to be the truth too, that’s just extra gravy, but it’s not a necessity.

  • GinaH Feb 23, 8:49 a.m.

How sad. A beautiful intelligent young lady was murdered for nothing! If a man doesn't want you, MOVE on. It's not worth it.
