A better face for tort reform has never been minted -
please, oh please let an appropriate poster for Edwards' mug be minted to add to my collection! With any luck it'll have his BOP intake pic on it.

  • rick_slick Aug 14, 2009

Well, at least now Edwards has 1 family for each of his two Americas.

Hope he does the right thing and acknowledges the child and helps raiser her.

  • YoucanthandletheTRUTH Aug 14, 2009

Golo...what was wrong with saying this was not news. That we all knew it already. That he has ruined his career anyway and that I am sick of seeing his lying grin and barbie doll that a problem to say on Golo now?

  • YoucanthandletheTRUTH Aug 14, 2009

Triumph!!!! I almost spit my drink out over that one!!! Those kids do have Edwards' pretty eyes and fine hair! It is worth looking in to!

  • james27613 Aug 14, 2009

No doubt he will continue to have a lucrative law practice,
cater to the rich and infamous.

  • batcave Aug 14, 2009

    john my baby daddy

  • Timtooltime Aug 14, 2009

    Who cares !

  • donnaferguson Aug 14, 2009

onelove a paternity test takes less than 1 minute and is done by swabbing the inside of the child's mouth. Having an 18 month old at the Federal Courthouse for 9 hours seems extreme.

oldschool - I seriously doubt if Eliz will go the "prove it in court" route. She walks a delicate balance of preserving her own somewhat untarnished image (she got down and dirty during the campaigns!) vs turning into a shrew. In theory there is plenty of Edwards money to go around, so the spouses will probably negotiate something if for no other reason than "the children."

The alienation of affections trial path is one rarely taken in today's society. It's my understanding the original idea behind such was more financial in nature, i.e. a wife suing another woman for taking away her sole source of income by "stealing" the husband. As you mentioned, NC is one of the few states that now even allows such trials.....and they can become terribly nasty when BOTH sides start airing the dirty linen. I'm not sure how the fact that the "other woman" is a non-NC resident factors in, either.

And, sadly, Eliz's health issues may preclude any extended legal battles.....

  • momofthreeinFV Aug 14, 2009

ncken1-I am still laughing. Someone finally told it just like it is....thank you.

John Edwards is nothing but a liar, cheat, womanizer, sorry excuse for a man, father, and husband. Ms. Hunter knew what she was doing too...she no better than John.

  • Tax Man Aug 14, 2009

Hey ghimmy51 - you would be right, except Edwards lied publicly about this and he misused NC funds in his affair(s)! This is a criminal prosecution now and I do believe he is going down. All this is evidence of his disdain for our laws and our money (taxes & campaign contributions)! So, it is a very public matter now.

  • Tax Man Aug 14, 2009

Oldschooltarheel - Yes, NC still has Alienation of Affection laws and Mrs Edwards can probably collect a lot of $$$ from the mistress here - and she should! And Mrs Edwards should divorce John and take all of his wealth, since he will likely be in prison soon anyway. I also believe, if he is truly the father of this love child, he should be prosecuted for perjury - 1 count for every time he told investigators he was NOT the father! That could probably add another 150 years to his sentence. Go Johnny Go - straight to Prison, do not Pass Go! Say hello to Mr Easley on your way.

  • Triumph Aug 14, 2009

Could John Edwards also be the real father of Michael Jackson's children?

  • grenlyn1 Aug 14, 2009

Holding breath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM TURNING BLUE HERE!!!!!!!!!! Bluer.....bluer....arugh...... ________________________

  • oldschooltarheel Aug 14, 2009

It'll be interesting to see if the wife uses NC's laws about proven adultery to bust 50:50 division of assets in divorce. Also interesting will be to see if see sues the mistress as allowed under NC state law (1 of only 7 states which allow it in cases of proven adultery). Why bother with divorce? Clean his clock of assets which she can safely will to heirs of her choosing. If she stays with him... well, those "Stand by Your Man' kinda gals often have things they'd rather not go public themselves.

  • Here kitty kitty Aug 14, 2009

jat -- oh c'mon you know what I mean. OK let me re-word to make you happy: why didn't they take precautions? Altho I still believe she didn't because of one reason: "MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!!" He didn't because he was stupid and probably believed she was taking precautions. There...happy now? Have a good weekend.

  • diana123 Aug 14, 2009

oh come come come. he's cute. why i voted for him the first time.

  • ncken1 Aug 14, 2009

John Edwards’ wife was literally dying of cancer. She was literally on her death bed until her highly successful American healthcare cancer treatments (before Obamacare destroyed that life-saving medical success story… which it will) began to beat the cancer back into remission.

So what’s a faithful and loving husband that’s running for political office to do while his wife dies?

Go out on the campaign trail and shag some nominally attractive air-head hippy chick repeatedly until she’s knocked up. Then to frost the cake, deny the affair and deny your own child, on national television, with a straight face, while funneling campaign funds to your knocked up concubine through the rinse cycle to keep her big yapper shut with hush money… and of course end the illicit affair when the ol’ ball-n-chain recovers from her cancer and appears to be staying around for awhile longer than the faithful and loving husband had expected her to.

There are no words to describe the descpic

  • JAT Aug 14, 2009

suchagoodboy - she "let herself get pregnant"? Really? Since when do we only blame 1 party for being stupid? She knew what she was doing and he knew what he was doing. Why did he let himself be "seduced" when he had a wife with cancer and 3 kids at home? Why couldn't he control himself? He had a whole lot more at stake than she did.

  • Southern Girl Aug 14, 2009

This baby girl will be just fine. I really believe the plan is that they will all eventually be one, happy family.

  • ghimmy51 Aug 14, 2009

I'm make this brief. It's not my business and I don't care. Unless you're one of the principals of this story it's not your business either.

  • Here kitty kitty Aug 14, 2009

I find myself wondering why she let herself get pregnant considering she was old enough to know better then it came to me in a flash of brilliance: "MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!!!!"

  • dewpac1 Aug 14, 2009

Your wife has cancer and you're having sex with another woman. I never liked you and I dislike you more now.

  • Professor Aug 14, 2009

I feel sorry for the baby girl.

Why? The baby will grow up having a good life if she is raised right and proper.

  • Tired of thoughtlessness Aug 14, 2009

I am in awe at how many people hate John Edwards are are gloating at this story. Not saying he was right in any way, but we must remember ALL politicians lie. I feel sorry for the baby girl.

  • Southern Girl Aug 14, 2009

Elizabeth, for your sake and the sake of your kids, please leave this man. You can hold your head up high - you have gone over and beyond what you should have.

    The time has come.

  • egh Aug 14, 2009

I never did trust John Edwards, and there are women like Hunter out there who are afer any one for money they don't care about the wife on his childern.

    God Bless

  • Professor Aug 14, 2009

Edwards before his indistrections also support Obama."

sure thing and WE like you will always suport Obama as long as he is in office. Oh, by the way - HE IS YOUR PRESIDENT TOO. LOL

  • lenno56 Aug 14, 2009

NC Pictures is correct!!!! Ambulance chasers like Edwards prey on people's misfortune to make a living. The healthcare propoposal out there now being proposed has no tort reform so Edwards like attorneys can still suck out huge settlements from their victims and we all end up paying for it!!!! And Edwards was a guy who was constantly lecturing us about 2 America's. I The real version of 2 America's is those that cheat on their spouse when he/she has cancer and those who don't. He is just a total phony and blowhard!!!

  • Libandproud Aug 14, 2009

"It's interesting that the same voting block that supported Edwards before his indistrections also support Obama."

It's interesting that the same voting block that supported Bush as he nearly destroyed the country with his gross incompetence are totally opposed to everything Obama does. Uninformed, blind followers, unwilling to admit the truth about the spectacular failure of their neocon leaders.

  • Professor Aug 14, 2009

Gee, we already know. But some people want to hear it from his mouth. I will be glad, so we won't have to read or hear about this issue again. :)

  • cocker_mom Aug 14, 2009

phatgirl - "it's not the crime, it's the coverup" - and this one was EPIC to cover an affair and a child.

It's quite possible he violated federal campaign funding laws to take DONATIONS for a political campaign to pay his baby mama. That's theft.

He likely had a wealthy supporter fund her move to Cali and bought her a house.

He lied to the nation and his family. He disrespected an innocent child by not being man enough to admit paternity.

He expected a staffer with a family to house her and then admit he fathered the child.

I am sure that there was money changing hands every step of he way.

Everyone makes mistakes. Some bigger than others. But, for me, I can respect someone who owns their mistakes. Because unless they do - they will continue to make them and they will continue to disrespect me - thinking so little of my intelligence that I will believe the lies.

THAT is why we are so disgusted with him.

  • concerncitizen Aug 14, 2009

Gnathostomata, I like what you said. This is type of behavior is a large part of why our children look at us like we are fools. You've seen whose looks? We are corrupt from the top of our society to the very bottom! They see us! We have become a nation of liars! Leader after leader fail us in grotesque ways daily!

  • aintbackingdwn Aug 14, 2009

It's interesting that the same voting block that supported Edwards before his indistrections also support Obama. Un-informed, blind followers, unwilling to admit the truth about their beloved candidate.

  • jrfergerson Aug 14, 2009

LEADERSHIP - If John Edwards he is a prime example of what our children are looking to for true leaders in our country, he set a very poor example to follow. just like those high ups at NCSU set for our young scollars to follow. I certainly hope our young folks find better examples of what it takes to be a true leader when they become adults.

  • teacher-mom Aug 14, 2009

People really made me sick over Bill Clinton. I am so tired of all these politicians. If you are going to do something, do it. Do not lie about it. Be proud that you have betrayed your spouse and put both of your lives in jeopardy. Be proud that you have put your children's futures at risk. Stand up and be proud. It all comes out in the end...

  • teacher-mom Aug 14, 2009

    I agree with you Chance.

  • Gnathostomata Aug 14, 2009

For all the comments that make it sound like this is normal, I would like to submit the opposing view. Most husbands are good family members and do not do things that hurt their wives and children. This is not a republican or democratic failing, it is a choice that is made by people with low morals, so you can drop the superiority stand for your party...the saddest part about this mess is the tone it sends to the nations children; they are witnessing this and I would not want my family to think this is acceptable behavior. We have the ability to be the best, but we have elected people based on false looks. It is indeed what is on the inside that counts, what a person does when no one else is looking...this sorry excuse for humanity only showed us what he truly is made of, so why is anyone surprised that this story goes on and on? His children will suffer for it, and that is the part that makes me sad.

    Is he from SC???

  • dws Aug 14, 2009

spot on, Objective Scientist!....address the ethical/moral issues and the political sniping disappears

  • NCPictures Aug 14, 2009

"one of the reasons health care is so high is lawyers like Edwards suing everyone from Hospitals and drug makers ect, and when they pay we all pay." ----heelrox

FINALLY! Someone gets it! You are EXACTLY right! I wish more people could understand this concept.

  • shortcake53 Aug 14, 2009

FYI Phatgirl, i dont have so much as a parking ticket in my past, and would not have a problem with a background check no matter how detailed. Hate to spoil it for you, but some of us adults actually DO live solid responsible lives. Maybe someday you can say the same........

  • hywilson Aug 14, 2009

How is it possible to have 200+ comments on this story??

  • MajorLeagueinfidel Aug 14, 2009

Phatgirl....correct! people do take a fall here and there and people do make mistakes...but when they assume leadership positions or positions of influence over others then their personal life has to become spotless...We ask this of our lowly Police Officers why not require it of our Lawmakers.....

A the issue is not an's the cover up and lying and hiding in bathrooms...not traits of a any leader I wish to follow, not traits of someone that we are paying to make sound decisions that influence our welfare and day to day life....HE NEEDS TO GO AWAY...IT'S OVER JOHN..LET GO OF THE EGO AND GO AWAY!!

  • Ignatius Reilly Aug 14, 2009

No statement planned "at the moment." LOL

I believe that that is what is called "a non-denial denial."

  • Objective Scientist Aug 14, 2009

John Edwards is a Democrat. Mark Sanford (SC Governor) is a Republican. Bill Clinton is a Democrat, Richard Nixon is a Republican. It would be relatively easy to create a long list of both Democrats and Republicans who have held or ran for political office and who have committed illegal or immoral (to most people) acts. Why do some who post comments always want to make it out as a Democrat vs Republican, Left vs Right, issue? And what does Sarah Palin have to do with this issue? To answer my own question... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! We need to stay on topic and away from peripheral issues and debates. John Edwards, a man who has committed "political suicide" and will (I hope) never be taken seriously in the political arena again... is a white, southern male, very rich attorney, married with children... who committed adultery, fathering a child in the process... who also happens to be a Democrat. A similar such description could apply to many... some will be Democrats, some Republicans!

  • concerncitizen Aug 14, 2009

"Where are all those Democrats from NC that loved him?" We're still here.... What a liar.....

  • Me again Aug 14, 2009

    Two Americas!

  • OSX Aug 14, 2009

Oh my, another dishonest lawyer.... Imagine that. What is the world coming too when you can't trust lawyers !!!! Ha Ha ha.

  • heelrox Aug 14, 2009

Lenno56, one of the reasons health care is so high is lawyers like Edwards suing everyone from Hospitals and drug makers ect, and when they pay we all pay.
