To add to the uproar: if you have a decorated Christmas tree in your home you are in direct violation of the preachings of the great prophet Jeremiah who expressly forbade it as PAGAN.
Git that thang outta the house!!!!

There is always going to be stupid people making frivolous complaints as this Jewish mother did. However one would think a school principal would have enough brains to dismiss such a complaint. The only real story here is why the school principal has not been sacked for displaying a propensity for irrational thought and unsound judgment.

    .....
Is that some of that famous xian tolerance I keep hearing of here?

  • MOM AND LOVIN IT Dec 11, 2008

  • 2headstrong Dec 11, 2008

jaredg, I think you hit the nail square on the head.

If this wasn't taking place in the school in the first place, there would be no argument. This is a diverse country, and out of respect for that diversity, celebration of what many consider to be a religious holiday should be left for people to do in their homes and/or places of worship.

It's not like the kids are deprived of celebrations to begin with.

  • exwife1956 Dec 11, 2008

The woman needs to find somewhere to sit down and read what Christmas is all about.

  • jaredg Dec 11, 2008

""School administrations also decided that for future concerts, religious songs can be included, as long as other faiths are represented as well."

I think this is the right approach...be inclusive of many faiths instead of excluding all references to faith."

This is a slippery slope. Next year people will be wanting to include Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Wiccans, etc. Granted it should be all or none, but in my opinion anything supported by government funding should be the latter. Have your Christmas pageant, but do it at church, not school.

Nothing. Just don't pay any attention to the naysayers? Its a pretty name etc.

  • NeverSurrender Dec 11, 2008

"NeverSurrender, maybe folks should respect you, if that's your desire, but like that little boy, there are millions who don't know what's about to hit them. So we persevere for their sake not yours."

    ---

Respect would certainly be a more realistic goal than being "liked". :)

But seriously, there is a important difference between the oblivious boy of your allegory and a rational thinking adult who is reasonably aware of their purpose and place in this universe.

There isn't a day that goes by that I'm not doing my dead-level best to ensure that my three children don't do something equally as catastrophic because they just don't have the experience or the knowledge to navigate this world on their own.

But like all parents, there comes the age where your child is capable of standing on their own. I'm sure it will be just as tough for me to allow them to live their own life.

But as your path is not mine, neither is mine theirs.

We all deserve to walk our respective paths in peace.

  • NeverSurrender Dec 11, 2008

"Actually, Never, the comment was "pray for those who reject Him." That was not directed at you, but at a group of people of which you happen to be a member. Had the commenter said "pray for the troops" and you were a soldier, would you be just as offended?"

    ---

There is a whole world of difference between someone putting out a thought to keep the troops who are defending your rights (including the freedom of religion) in your thoughts whether it be a prayer to God, Jesus, Buddha, Osiris, Zeus, or whatever...and someone getting in my face telling me that they're going to "pray for me" because they've judged me to be some sort of sinner that requires their personal intercession.

It is the latter situation and arrogant presumption that goes along with it that is an incredible turn-off for me and pretty much any reasonable person you'd likely meet.

I would also point out that you're also assuming you know what I believe or don't. I would respectfully suggest that you don't...

  • PowderedToastMan Dec 11, 2008

So, ONE uptight parent complains and the song is pullled... dozens of parents complain that the song was pulled, but it stays that way!?!? It's impossible to satisfy all of the people all of the time, but this This "majority ruled by the minority" stuff needs to stop. If this woman doesn't like the song, then let her kid sit out and don't watch the play...simple as that. You don't like it, don't participate and don't ruin it for the rest of us.

What happens if your name is Christian?!?

  • dlentz2 Dec 11, 2008

haggis, I don't think you really understand any religion at all. The story never said this lady wasn't religious. Most Jews do not believe in Christ as being their Messiah, thus they don't celebrate Christmas as most Christians do. They believe in God and are looking for God to send their savior.
She maybe as you say a "religious fanatic" but not about Christ.

    clover ...

you know i thought the whole "rudolf is as real as Jesus" comment was ignorrant ... but WOW ... that one is even MORE rediculous! The acceptance of other peoples beliefs will NEVER make the world peaceful! The world HAS never been and WILL never be peaceful ... there are too many people trying to co exist together ...

things just simply aren't that simple!

  • REDRD Dec 11, 2008

    NeverSurrender -

To me, that's the central problem with "belief"...this dogmatic view of the world that your "belief" must be right and by extension ones that don't agree with yours must be wrong. That doesn't sound particularly respectful or inclusive to me ...

I can't help but think of the story of the man standing on the corner as a little boy got ready to walk out in front a oncoming transfer truck. A vehicle that would ultimately destroy his little body had he continued on his path out into the intersection. Just as the tike stepped off the curb and into the path of a horrible, yet certain death, he grabbed the little boy's arm and jerked him onto the curb. The ferocity with which he yanked the little boys arm nearly pulled it from it's socket and inevitably left him bruised.

NeverSurrender, maybe folks should respect you, if that's your desire, but like that little boy, there are millions who don't know what's about to hit them. So we persevere for their sake not yours.

  • dontthinkso Dec 11, 2008

Granted this Mom has no clue on how to guide her minority child through society - However, all the posts complaining that she and folks like her are ruining Christmas is ridiculus. Yes, Christmas is a Holy Day (and night before if you are good enough to go to services), but that is it. . A Holy Day, as in 24 hours. Not a Holy 55 days (from Nov 1st at my last count). Christians need to have a discussion amongst themselves what Christmas means to them. Santa? Jesus? Rudolf? I believe people rooted in their faith and those that teach their children the true principles of the Bible will not be threatened by other religions or cultures celebrating Holidays of their own. Everyone just needs to go to Mosque, Church, Synagogue this week and hopefully we can all make this a peaceful season.

  • Journey985 Dec 11, 2008

I'm sure that all these people that are complaining about the usage of the phrase "Merry Christmas" and others like that, do not complain when they receive a day or however much time off from work with pay? Get over it, celebrate the season in your own way, but DO NOT try to ruin others happiness.

  • Dr. Dataclerk Dec 11, 2008

There is no need to try to make others adopt the same morals or religious ideas. in my honest opinion rudolf is just as believable as jesus is.
    clover1019

So how do you think you came to be on this earth. Reminder: Man cannot do what God can do. Don't put material things before God/Jesus, that will not be good. Read your bible for more wisdom of understanding. Believe!

  • cdog Dec 11, 2008

This is ridiculous. One person complains about a song and spoils it for the rest of us.She needs to move to country where they don't sing Christmas carols then. And also the people who removed the song has no backbone either. You either believe in
Christmas and the birth of Jesus or you don't but don't spoil it for the ones thst do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • K9Tucker.LoveMYcop Dec 11, 2008

  • clover1019 Dec 11, 2008

christmas is about christ to some people but to me, and lots of others its about decorations, family, presents, parties, food and fun! amazing how some people can be so offended by a song. I am so tired of hearing people complain about OTHER peoples beliefs or nonbeliefs. If this world would just accept the fact that we all believe in different things and thats that it would be a peaceful place. There is no need to try to make others adopt the same morals or religious ideas. in my honest opinion rudolf is just as believable as jesus is.

  • Jimmie Johnson no.1 Fan Dec 11, 2008

Why do people insist on making such a big deal over something so small. This song refers to Santa not Christmas. If the song is so offensive then why doesn't she remove her child or have him/her not sing it. I don't understand why everyone else who enjoys the song has to be included.

  • me2you Dec 11, 2008

"Everybody, Christian and non-Christian alike, needs to accept the fact that Christmas in modern America is primarily a secular holiday. There are lots of people who still light advent wreaths and attend services on Christmas Eve, who still celebrate the religious side of the holiday, but the overwhelming majority of activities and decorations related to December 25th are secular. There are a lot of people who have never set foot in a church in their lives (Hindus, Jews, atheists, agnostics...) who celebrate Christmas with a tree, Santa and presents"

WHY? what's the point of doing this with no meaning behind it. Christmas IS about CHRIST!!!!!!

  • unc4evr Dec 11, 2008

    Christ
    Christmas
    Christian
    Chris

Christmas is just around the corner. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

  • tiblet Dec 11, 2008

A bit off topic but for you Christians on the board this AM...I saw a man at the mall yesterday carrying a huge banner that said, "Ask me why you deserve hell." I thought it would be a much better way to minister to have it read, "Ask me how you can be assured a place in heaven." Sometimes I think as Christians, we have the right intent but go about evangelizing all wrong.

  • tiblet Dec 11, 2008

I'm not christian and even I think this mother wanting to ban Rudolf is ridiculous.

Merry Christmas to all my christian friends here and Happy Holidays to all!!!!

  • batcave Dec 11, 2008

This works. Businesses should be open 5 or 7 days a week,a s they choose, never closing for any holidays, and employees can be given a bank of days to use for whatever holiday they choose to use them for. That'd be a nice & fair way to handle

Hospitals have been doing this for decades. We never close.

  • lissad821 Dec 11, 2008

This is really stupid in my opinion. This song is one that many kids enjoy and Christmas should be a special time for children. If the mother does not like this holiday then pack up and move out. Everyone who moves here from other countries comes b/c America is land of opportunity and freedom. Then when they get here they want everything to go their way and want things to change to suit them. If you don't like it then no one is forcing you to be here. Don't participate in holidays if you don't agree with them. Simple enough!!!! People are forgetting the true meaning behind Christmas.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!!!

Pray can you show me where the intolerance is coming from? Majority of the comments have said "we tolerate your views, you should also tolerate ours. If you don't want to tolerate it, at least ignore it". By the way, I am not a Chritian but the only holiday that I know falls on Dec 25 of each year is Christmas! Wish you all a Merry Christmas. Hope this Christmas lights up the minds of at least a handful of closed minds!

  • Dr. Dataclerk Dec 11, 2008

Thanks WRAL and have a happy Merry Christmas!

  • Dr. Dataclerk Dec 11, 2008

Ok thanks again WRAL. Maybe I need to change my tone. :) Here goes.

If people are offended because of the name "Christ", what will they do when Jesus Christ calls for them to enter his home? Why do they call on Jesus Christ when they are very sick or dying? You cannot have it both way, so I don't understand their intent except may they want attention.

By the way, when her children becomes teenagers or adults they will read Rudolph the red-nose rein-deer book and others as well. Its a shame how some parents raise and instill in their children.

In god we trust not rudolph. The politicians bend over and take what ever the small group of different people want because they fill different. Well get over it and stop letting evryone push you around. Im glad this school system stepped up to the plate this time and hope they stick to thier guns. This country was founded on the concept of one nation under god and our fonding fathers god was the gd they were referring to. Not a idol or a space ship.

  • dukeman64 Dec 10, 2008

Besides, Christmas is not even strictly Christian anymore. It has become less about Jesus and more about giving and being good human beings to each other. In other words, it has evolved into a human holiday. Thus, I say:

    MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!

  • thescarletpimpernel Dec 10, 2008

The unpublished mother must have a lot of time on her hands. I have Jewish friends, they simply don't let their children participate in these types of programs.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!
