More Foreign $Paid$ Whiny Anti-American Protestors. Go Live in North Korea. American History is What it Was and Is. It's Not Pick and Choose..
Andrew Martinson Aug 23, 6:47 p.m.
My God, leftwingnuts sure know how to show their a__ __. I guess that's all they're learning in universities these days. Sad for America.
Robert Dillin Aug 23, 5:17 p.m.
There is so much more going on in the world without adding one more item. The statues are a part of history. History is not pretty but we can learn from it. They didn't tear down the torture camps in Germany. They cleaned them up and created dialogue about what happened so it doesn't get repeated. These statues and monuments are handmade. Just like what happened during the civil war. All man made. Don't tear down history. Learn from it and once we educate ourselves we can educate our children. Behaving like what we all hate is not how you get things done. Step back and try and see it from a different view. What's next? Let's all drive to Stone Mountain and blow it up. America is in the crossroads of a very dangerous time. Do we really want to put so much energy into an object that really doesn't represent the majority. If the statue goes, it goes but don't act like animals in Durham. Have respect for others, yourself and diversity. Let's be the lightening rod
matthewcargo Aug 23, 4:41 p.m.
Antifa dosent mean Anti First Amendment, Antifa actually means
Anti-fascism. They are against free speech as well at least do some research first. Know your enemy and they along with BLM are the enemy.
Gary Thompson Aug 23, 1:39 p.m.
amen to that. Souther pride and southern heritage. Lets GET R DONE AS LARRY WOULD SAY
Gary Thompson Aug 23, 1:22 p.m.
i support trump because i voted for him. I also supported osama mean obama because he was president even though i think he was a failure and a mistake. If you disagree with trump try to vote him out next election. Enough said
Gary Thompson Aug 23, 1:10 p.m.
here you go again. Why dont you do some research before you open your flap for once. You and people lime you are a major part of the problem and a disgrace on this nation
Charlie Watkins Aug 23, 1:04 p.m.
The Democrats will take down every Confederate statue in North Carolina and will win back the legislature due to their stand on removing the monuments.
Scott Patterson Aug 23, 12:34 p.m.
But you understand that the KKK is derived from the Templar Knight's correct? The ones you are referring to were disbanded in the early 1300, KKK adorns the same symbol and attire...
Jeffrey Given Aug 23, 12:27 p.m.
Scott Patterson the knights templar are not the kkk like I said yesterday learn your history. Bachelors degree, lol
Scott Patterson Aug 23, 12:26 p.m.
#TheResistance is not antifa, its actually just people who think 45 is unfit fot office.
Matt Wood Aug 23, 12:23 p.m.
So you admit they were put up to further racial oppression and should be taken down?
Also, way to ignore demographics in voting on the Civil Rights Act. It was more a North v. South thing, than Democrats v. Republicans, but still more Democrats voted for it than Republicans (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/aug/28/republicans-party-of-civil-rights). In fact, ZERO southern republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act. It also ignores how such racists as Strom Thurmond (who tried to filibuster the CRA) jumped ship and joined the Republican party because they realized it suited their message better.
Deborah Turner Aug 23, 12:21 p.m.
THANK YOU !
Jeffrey Given Aug 23, 12:19 p.m.
That's news to me didn't know I was a know white supremacist that's news to me, I'm an American veteran who loves my country and all you antifa pukes are no better than the kkk or blm. Scott Patterain.
William Sherman Aug 23, 12:15 p.m.
I dont care if it embarasses you---as for living in America--iof you are so unhappy and displeased here, by all means feel free to pack your possibles and leave. I also would note that you have not or cannot refute what I said. pretty poor..
Phillip Mozingo Aug 23, 12:03 p.m.
I figured as much. Thanks.
Phillip Mozingo Aug 23, 11:32 a.m.
They might come down but be prepared for the outcome if they do.
William Sherman Aug 23, 11:13 a.m.
You seriously do need to grab a history book--pray tell precisley who was responsible for setting up these hated statues? Democrats. Who used them to perpetuate racial oppression? Whose ancestors are memorialized through these statues --Democrats. So now, precisely who are you calling a white supremacist? Just for your future reference--I am one half Native American. You would be well served to engage you brain before putting you mouth in gear. Just might save you some embarrassing moments.
Phillip Mozingo Aug 23, 11:13 a.m.
To call our President a Hitler and to call white people that support him racist is not only childish but somewhat an uneducated remark. So what grade did you drop out? It's ok to admit that you're uneducated. A lot of people are. It's just that some are more ill-advised than others.
Scott Patterson Aug 23, 10:47 a.m.
There we go... you said it not me. GRAB A HISTORY BOOK... these statues are meaningless to history. They were set up for oppression nothing more. Also, how can you be anti-fascist and do as the Nazi party does... regardless if the Nazis took down statues, that isnt the defining representation of the party. We took down King George's III statue when we won independence... I still know who was king when it happened regardless of the statue not being there. People take down statues of their oppressors all the time... this is no different from the view of many young Americans who do not want these people commemorated.
Mark McNutt Aug 23, 10:40 a.m.
This is the result of unchecked, anti-American, anti-white radical liberalism being pushed 24 x 7 x 365 in our public education system.
This HAS to be stopped, and it will, be it by force if necessary.
This is 100% fascism.
These people HATE conservatives, white people, successful people, the religious, ANYONE that doesn't support their twisted agenda. And because LEO typically does nothing to deal with them, they have become emboldened o do whatever they want.
THEY are the dividers in this country. Imagine getting jumped or harassed walking down Hillsborough street simply for wearing a Trump hat or T-shirt,
This liberal HATE has to be dealt with now, because next they will be coming for churches and synagogues.
James Freeman Aug 23, 10:40 a.m.
Antifa = Anti First Amendment.
These deluded kids (and other paid agitators) are nothing but 'tools' of the neo-liberal and neo-conservative deep state who are trying to engineer chaos and civil / race war. Wise up kiddos, and DO NOT FALL FOR IT!
Rachel Parrish Aug 23, 10:34 a.m.
When will this end? Will it be after every part of American history is destroyed? The civil war started due to the same reason the colonist wanted to break free of British rule.
Michael Parker Aug 23, 10:25 a.m.
The statue promotes violence?? No, it's a statue, you Antifa people are the ones promoting violence! And the statue is better protected than any student on campus? It doesn't move! It's kind of a lot easier to protect a statue that's very big and stays in one spot! You people are such babies, stop making such a big deal over a statue and trying to erase a piece of our States history!
Scott Patterson Aug 23, 10:21 a.m.
I dont think you know what Fascism is... here is the definition;
Definition of fascism
1often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
2: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial controlearly instances of army fascismand brutality — J. W. Aldridge
William Sherman Aug 23, 10:12 a.m.
would not hurt to use it as a slogan in the fight against the fascist who today continue a practice begun by Hitler and his Nazis by tearing down statues and monuments that represent ideas they fear.
William Sherman Aug 23, 9:33 a.m.
3-dHilarious? Pathetic I would call it--the democrats brushing aside their history of slavery and repression and trying to present themselves as the savior of the people. Democrats and their followers have ignored the statues, monuments and legacy they have built until now. Surely they are not afflicted enough to think that everyone else will ignore that factual history as well.
Robert Swiger Sr. Aug 23, 8:59 a.m.
I notice Trump supporters in the video on the news why didn't WRAL interview them could they be bias.
Johnny Priest Aug 23, 8:49 a.m.
How many of the protesters were paid to be there? How is a statue violent? Why did the police allow a public street to be shut down? Go to the White House petition page and sign the petition that Antifa is a terrorist organization. The same for BLM.
If the students really feel this way then protest by boycotting going there. Transfer to another school. No one would care.
Scott Patterson Aug 23, 8:47 a.m.
You know whats hilarious about this argument... the Democrats have obviously learned from their mistakes in the past, (100 years ago) which is why they denounce these disgraceful statues now. Everybody wants to talk about learning from history... odd that we get flake for learning from history and mistakes and thats all you people blast off about... #Ironic
David Brower Aug 23, 8:32 a.m.
THE CONFEDERATES WERE DEMOCRATS .
DEMOCRATS ERECTED THE STATUES TO HONOR THEM .
NOW DEMOCRATS WANT TO TAKE THE
STATUES DOWN & REVISE THE HISTORY OF THEIR OWN PARTY .
Vince DiSena Aug 23, 8:04 a.m.
How is the removal of this or any other statue going to alter anything, or change anyone's life? Being offended by something is a personal choice. Just choose not to be. The Democratic Party is using these statues as a prop to further divide our country. That's what should be being protested.
Phillip Mozingo Aug 23, 7:41 a.m.
Keep protesting and calling for the destruction of our statues and you may find yourselves in a civil war. History will repeat itself. I think armed citizens should protect these statues at all costs. Our Governor needs to resign. He's about worthless and sides with the protestors on everything. He's a threat to our state and to our citizens. He needs to be gone! We know he cheated to get in office anyhow. Explain how Republicans swept the country in the polls and one sorry democrat get elected in NC. #cheater #needstogo
Henry Cooper Aug 23, 7:25 a.m.
The one clear thing that is coming from all of this.... There is no peaceful protest from either side and that probably says more about where were are as a society than any single issue.
Charlie Watkins Aug 23, 7:10 a.m.
Once this statue is down we will have racial equality in North Carolina.
Charlie Watkins Aug 23, 5:52 a.m.
The Democrats are united in taking down all Confederate statues.
Gov. Cooper will knock you down!
Mary Meadows Aug 23, 12:19 a.m.
Leave the statue alone. I'm so sick of everyone jumping on this bandwagon. We need to be focused on serious issues , not an animate object.
Arron Lee Aug 22, 10:11 p.m.
So, let me get this right. One protestor said having the statue on campus is discrimation and racist. What is really discrimanatory and racist is having an African American Studies program on campus. Are they also offering a Caucasion Studies program. Get real people.
Brenda Lawrence Aug 22, 10:10 p.m.
So the more than 258,000 southern men who died (and the number is probably low) should receive no recognition? Even though they were drafted? That doesn't seem right either IMO. Pretty sure my great great grandfather didn't want to get killed and leave his wife and four children in extreme poverty.
Shawn Patrick Aug 22, 10:01 p.m.
"And just like that people were mad at statues" -Forrest Gump
Deborah Turner Aug 22, 9:41 p.m.
The Silent Sam statue represents a era in American history when there was extreme poverty in the Southern States. If these spoiled and pampered kids had to live without electricity for one month you would see panic on a scale never before seen in human history and their attitude would change. The Southern States population (29% of the total US population in 1861 ) was being oppressed by a President that hated them - Black & White. Do your own research.
Robert Swiger Sr. Aug 22, 9:38 p.m.
I am a citizen of NC and pay taxes that go to that School. So I say the statute stays
Jeffrey Derry Aug 22, 9:26 p.m.
Joe Eastland Aug 22, 8:40 p.m.
Because this year, it's fashionable.
David McCabe Aug 22, 8:16 p.m.
I wonder why some folks took a sledgehammer to one of the oldest monuments to Christopher Columbus in Baltimore? Now correct me if I'm wrong, I know I was educated in the South which according to people these days was incapable of teaching about it correctly, but I don't remember Columbus being a part of the Confederacy. Sorry, I guess I was educated with wrongthink here in the South...
Jerry Sawyer Aug 22, 8:03 p.m.
There is so much fervor for removing confederate statues this year. I question why the same fervor was not apparent last year.
Amy Whaley Aug 22, 7:41 p.m.
An earlier article mentioned fliers announcing the protest at 7pm and this article calls the protest a rumor? So who organized the protest, i.e. printed and distributed fliers? Who started the rumor? "Folt and the administration continue to prioritize wealthy alumni over students of color." Huh? Assumptive much?
Colin Burch III Aug 22, 7:14 p.m.
How many people paid any attention to the statue until someone made an issue out of it? Is it really about the statue? Moving the statue is not going to change the economic status of anyone nor change anyone's mind, actually tends to harden opinions. Focusing on the statues is a diversion from the main issues that need to be resolved. A lot of wasted time and energy - full of sound and fury - but doesn't fix anything.
Sheila Rohrbach Aug 22, 6:34 p.m.
hope they get some video that is good if it happens, just in case their parents are paying their tuition, living, etc. billls
Rudy Bizzell Aug 22, 6:09 p.m.
