Well I don't want my money going to Duke, UNC, A&T, and RTI, but they received federal grants totaling over 102 million dollars last fall. That 800K doesn't seem so much now. Too bad we don't have much of a choice in how those dollars are spent.

Why is this grant based on race instead of academic achievement? This is just another goverment subsidized handout to make politicians feel better about themselves, while the ones who really need it are going without!! If they truely wanted to promote the minority inequality in the STEM field they should spread the money out among all college students based on their GPA instead of just giving it to one particular college who, by the way, just recently had an investgation for some shady accounting practices...

I am not familiar with Saint Augustine’s, but some institutions prefer to accept most applicants and allow the first year or two of coursework to weed them out. Philosophically speaking, that allows them to give almost everyone a chance, but it hurts their graduation rate. Obviously, some schools go the other route, and deny a large percentage of their applicants; which ultimately will show positively in their graduate rates.

So, if I wanted St Augs to have my money, I would have donated it to them. Instead, the govt steal my money via taxes, gives it to NSF, which then gives it to St Augs. I don't want my money going to St Augs.

  • Confucius say Jul 8, 2014

Searches show St. Aug has a graduation rate around 30%. Why so low?

This is great news for St. Aug's.

Blessed to hear it. I hope they use it to build up their STEM programs, so students who want to go there can really benefit.
