DACA is not a 'program', it's an executive order from our resident socialist president. Calling it a program implies it was established through due process.

US citizens from another state should receive instate tuition before illegals do. More will come if we continue to offer rewards for violating our laws.
The title of the article should read 'Illegals seek more handouts'.

There is no point arguing with some that can't differentiate between two separate issues... Giving any person In State Tuition does not change their legal status. To argue differently is to admit ignorance of the Law.

Oh yes they are. Its all part of the push by both illegals and their supporters to blur the lines between citizens and non-citizens. Question for you. Where will those non-citizens work after they graduate? Are you going to insist they get deported?

  • tracmister Jun 17, 3:42 p.m.

Many of these children were brought here at a young age and forced, yes forced into public education by a Republican dominate Supreme Court ruling back in the mid 80's. Now that they are adults and no longer part of their own nations heritage in would be a case of cruel and unusual punishment. This problem could have been solved a long time ago. Now it's a major issue.

Giving a person In-State Tuition is not the same as giving them Citizenship (Amnesty). Please don't conflate the two issues.

  • foolmeonce Jun 17, 3:29 p.m.

Let's all remember when we go to the polls in November, that the Democrat party wants to give illegals amnesty. Let's send a message, that we're tired of them turning a deaf ear to the will of the people. There is absolutely no benefit to this country by allowing illegals to enter or stay here.

  • foolmeonce Jun 17, 3:24 p.m.

Send them home. We don't owe illegals anything, and if we stop encouraging them, they'll stop coming. We can't afford this invasion of our schools and welfare system and since we have millions of Americans out of work, we certainly don't need illegals taking any American jobs.

  • imback Jun 17, 3:20 p.m.

I understand the urge by many to grant in-state tuition and citizenship to people who have been here for many years and/or brought here as children. But a question for those who support amnesty ( And that is what it is), if we grant all the priviledges and rights to the 10-15 million plus who have broken into our country in the last 30 years, what about the next 10 -15 million that come in? Do they get the same benefits 20 years from now? And please do not tell me Obama has deported more than any previous administration. I think those numbers are hogwash and even if we believe them, it barely deals with the millions who are here and continue to come here. When was the last time you saw a story about anyone business being prosecuted for hiring illegals? At what point do we really enforce the law?

  • irbthbow Jun 17, 2:35 p.m.

These kids didn't choose their heritage origin or other, but neither did I. I don't expect to have all the rights of citizenship in other countries that I'm not a citizen in. If illegals have all the rights of citizens what art the benefits of citizenship? Paying taxes, criminal accountability, drug test for jobs, etc. etc. ? Should I renounce my citizenship now?

  • ldestefano63 Jun 17, 1:11 p.m.

You already get free education by attending our schools that legal citizens taxes pay for, you and your families do not pay taxes, so therefore your education is free, as well as your breakfasts and lunches and whatever else they give you there. You and your families broke the law, you have absolutely no rights in the USA since you are here illegally. Why don't you take this time and effort to actually become, hmmm I don't know, LEGAL citizens and pay your fair share. I for one am tired of hearing the complaints that you don't get this and that, go back to where you came from and give up all the freebies the USA gives you. I am tired of supporting those here illegally, I can barely support myself while you get by very well with my tax dollars.

  • Goalieman Jun 17, 12:58 p.m.

"I'm out here because some of my students are out here, students I've worked with and have known since they were very young," Meyer said. "They're out here standing up to say, 'We've gone through North Carolina schools, and we want the ability to have an affordable college education.'"

Doesn't everyone? They can pay just as much as Out-of-state students or In-state students. They don't need a handout!!

If you here to work for your education, then don't ask for handouts!!

  • jrelon Jun 17, 12:57 p.m.

    They're breaking the law. That's a fact.

You don't like the law, fine, try and change it. But in the meantime, you either belong in jail or back in your country of origin.

You should seek equity in your true country, not one you are a criminal in. Why do criminals believe they should receive the same rights as those of us who are law abiding? Mind blowing but in this society of whiny "oh I am not getting what I want and I want it for nothing" liberals it is not surprising.

  • Iwasasoldier4u Jun 17, 12:38 p.m.

Undocumented? Why does the press have to sugar coat it, they are illegal. Why are they allowed to protest at the general assembly and not be arrested when taxpaying American citizens did it yesterday and got arrested.

Has nothing to do with hatred. These people are here ILLEGALY. Why should we, as taxpayers and law abiding citizens, subsidize their educations? I guess that I should suspect nothing less from someone who hates law enforcement, praises criminals and advocates infringement of constitutional rights.

  • klbarker29 Jun 17, 12:26 p.m.

So let me get this straight. You're argument is that since you've stolen 11 years of education you should now be entitled to cheap college. If someone steals my car I shouldn't be required to send him gas money every week.

  • yg58 Jun 17, 12:26 p.m.

Like another writer, I am a lifelong liberal democrat, and I believe that "equity" for these students would be for them to return to their home countries for their college education. The fact they they are allowed to stay here and receive free education, through high school, on my tax dollar, despite their parents having brought them here illegally is more than generous on the behalf of the United States and North Carolinians. To think they are entitled to even more is beyond belief.

While a few may be 'spewing hate', most are simply arguing for rule of law. It's this inability to enforce laws that will lead to the American failure that you speak of. When that day comes...I may be going to Canda...but I won't be asking for a hand-out.
