And the biggest profiteers of gas are the federal and state governments, who make a considerable amount of profit without even lifting a finger on every gallon of gas purchased through taxes!

What should really make you mad is that the US exported 5,235,000+ gallons of gasoline in the month of January...

According to EIA historical data (http://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/), average retail price per gallon in the US for April 14, 2008 was $3.35.

I go to Florence SC every other week. I fill my tank up before I get the NC state line & save 20 cents a gallon. We're not getting any real benefit out of our high gas taxes that's for sure......!!!!!

  • Jason Galarneau Apr 16, 2014

Sweet. Let's go to $4 again.

--Why? Any additional oil through the Keystone would turn around and be sold to the highest country bidder which is what is happening today.

  • rduwxboy Apr 16, 2014

The US is producing more than ever in history. More of the world wants more. Supply and demand. Capitalism at work. This is the new normal. Gas in the US is still cheap compared to most of the planet.

Actually, they will not. Past observation has proven that even when gas prices are up, most people don't change their travel plans during the holidays. They may vacation closer to home and some will do carpools, but the holidays ???? Not so much.

  • Judy Fergerson Apr 16, 2014

people who are on budgets will be staying home - gas too costly - business will suffer because people can't afford to be traveling

  • Paladin2 Apr 16, 2014

    This is Obama's energy policy!

  • stymieindurham Apr 16, 2014

That's right. Let's get it up to $5.00 a gallon. But, no one's crying about how it's hurting the low income. They're only crying about the "evil rich oil man"!!

  • SFSOLDIER Apr 16, 2014

Makes me sick! No reason for this what-so-ever! Keeping the average American down...period!

  • 68_dodge_polara Apr 16, 2014

    Literally highway robbery.

  • disgusted2010 Apr 16, 2014

NO news here, it happens at every holiday. The gas industry always gouges people when they drive more.

  • Larry Sutton Apr 16, 2014

Any excuse they can find to increase the price, and sometimes they don't even use one . . . it just goes up. Bring on Keystone!

  • dwr1964 Apr 16, 2014

When the top suits are taking home 50 and 60 million bucks a year, I think they could lower the prices a bit. Of course then, those filthy rich fatheads wouldn't have all that power any more. It's never going to change.

  • Todd Jenkins Apr 16, 2014

I thought the answer in the Bush years was to blame it all on the president being from texas and an oil man…Funny how things change and the President shares not blame for a failed energy policy.
