It use to bother me when people would make fun of durham because of incidents of violence. It doesn't anymore because I know what a wonderful city Durham is. I have lived here for 25 years and have raised four children. The bottom line is if they don't like Durham, so what! By the way, I use to lived in Chicago and believe me when I say that Durham is no Chicago!

Surely the Won will cruise through Durham to wave at his Voters.

  • WASP Jan 14, 2014

Another shooting/killing in Durham. And this is news?

  • mafiamic Jan 14, 2014

"Why isn't that a big concern for anyone of rising crime reports in other counties instead of a chance to bash Durham as usual? "

Because the ones who bash are jealous for they are not like the multi millionaires who live by southpointe and south of there by old chatham and that area.
They are also probably the ones who drive in fear going to work at RTP,beings none are actual employees and are all contract workers living in the corner pretending they are elite people.

"Why isn't that a big concern for anyone of rising crime reports in other counties instead of a chance to bash Durham as usual? "

I think we all know why the Durham bashers savor every new death coming out of the Bull City: race.

It gives the racists a chance to take a slightly veiled swipe at the African American community in Durham. Wink, wink, plausible deniability of course, but we all know what's at the root of the bashing.

    i'm white btw

    "RGMTROCKS JAN 14, 2:58 P.M.
I love all you Durham bashers. You give me more reasons to stay in Durham "

    Stay Safe there in Durham,
make sure you have your Kevlar on and your Life Insurance is paid up !

Durham is the only county in the state that requires handgun registration

  • jmc3 Jan 14, 2014

Don't worry fellow fans of equal treatment for Durham, with Obama coming tomorrow all the news coverage will of course be on Raleigh so we might fall out of the headlines for a short time. Do you think the Presidential motorcade will drive through southeast Raleigh on the way to NCSU? Everyone be safe out there and have a nice day!

I'm pretty sure hes heading into the Raleigh firing zone lately this trip and not through Durham. NC State area has seen its share of violent crime lately too.

  • RGMTRocks Jan 14, 2014

I love all you Durham bashers. You give me more reasons to stay in Durham and out of the Raleigh,Cary area where, of course, NOTHING bad happens. It's all good because you see, we don't like your kind in Durham anyway so we prefer that you continue to think it's a bad place and stay away so you won't be in our way when we're enjoying all the absolutely GREAT places we have here in Durham with all the great people of Durham. So bash on Haters and have a nice day - but be sure to stay out of those bad neighborhoods that are near you as well. We wouldn't want you to get shot or stabbed or anything. It might make you want to check out Durham.

  • rdanico Jan 14, 2014

durham residents are thrilled that all you wake county people hate on us! keeps our taxes down. stay in wake county.

    just to quote a few...

  • Obamacare prevails again Jan 14, 2014

I'd be afraid to ride through Durham inside the Presidential Limo.

  • bizarro Jan 14, 2014

Violent crimes in Durham have gotten out of hand and there seems to be no end in sight.

  • jmc3 Jan 14, 2014

As I have said on many occasions, the crimes in Raleigh are either "un" or "under" reported on WRAL on a regular basis. Did WRAL report the excellent crime numbers that Durham County reported recently. If so, I must have missed it. But when a crime occurs in Durham, they are all over it for days and days, providing frequent "updates" (NOT) just to keep the story in the headlines. There are parts of Durham that I feel uncomfortable in just as there are areas of Raleigh that are quite dangerous. WRAL and other local media do Durham a great disservice by continuing to further the perception that the entire city is a hotbed of crime, when that ISN'T the case. WRAL's reporting bias is one reason why I have quit watching their local news.

  • eddybal Jan 14, 2014

RKBA, what restrictive gun laws? Last time I checked, Durham was part of NC.

  • WRALSUCKS Jan 14, 2014

Hard to believe this could happen in Durham given all the restrictive gun laws there.

Prayers to those involved and their family.

Its Raleigh that's in the headlines for that almost daily lately in 2014 and ahead in violent crimes so far. I agree with Phyxius1 that its time the spotlight starts to come off Durham and people look at what's happening around them in their own counties. Its been a bad start in NC for 2014 and Durham doesn't appear to lead the pack this time around. Why isn't that a big concern for anyone of rising crime reports in other counties instead of a chance to bash Durham as usual? Raleigh was the first with a murder for 2014 and there was hardly a comment made or of 3 shot on the 9th or man killed by burger king on the 6th. Durham county unincorporated areas saw a 20%+ drop in crimes for 2013 so its heading in the right direction. The city part still has its issues as seen in this story but not all of Durham is bad. I guess on the other hand though ALL of Raleigh is bad now with all the crime reports , shootings and murders there now.

  • stymieindurham Jan 14, 2014

Did you know there were "TWO" drive-by shootings on Crest street over the weekend?!!! You don't hear about ALL the shootings in Durham. Not unless someone dies.

  • Mr. Hans Jan 14, 2014

A shooting in Durham? Now there's something you don't see every day... Oh, wait.

It sounds like you get so much pleasure out of murders in Durham that you don't actually want anything done to curtail them.

Guess you have not been reading of the shootings and murders in your Raleigh this month. They have outnumbered Durhams so far this yr. Sad senseless crimes for sure and Durham has its issues but Durham isn't heading up the headlines lately . Another person was stabbed to death in Raleigh just this am, 3 shot in one ordeal on the 9th less than a week ago and first reported murder for the year. Time to stop trying to keep the spotlight on Durham and ignoring whats going on in others back yards... yards..WAY too much senseless crimes hitting the headlines this year all around.

  • mike275132 Jan 14, 2014

Gee, How Surprising another murder in Durham. What is your solution Mayor Bell ? [ So far in the last 13 years as Mayor you have not helped the situation].

I'm sure after President Barack Hussein Obama speaks tomorrow at NCSU there will be no more murders.

    Just like in Chicago.....

  • Obamacare prevails again Jan 14, 2014

  • mramorak Jan 14, 2014
