Many who have commented are saying;"She chose to marry a violent man". You need to consider also that at the time of their marriage that he was not a violent person.

  • spunkyisbackagain Nov 15, 5:33 p.m.

She choose to marry a violent, evil man. See it all the time. When will you women learn? Life is all about choices, and now it's time to face the consequences."

And tell me how you know he's been violent before?

Also, it is all about choices. He chose to act violently and now will likely get jail time. He could have chosen to have kept his mouth shut and his truck keys in his pocket but obviously didn't. Oh well, do the crime, do the time.

  • godnessgracious2 Nov 15, 4:40 p.m.

Domestic violence is a choice, and if you don't want to be a victim of it then don't choose to marry somebody who might later choose to be violent toward you. Instead choose somebody who wouldn't hurt a fly. Oh no, that won't work for a woman, she needs to choose the violent guy and then blame her situation on others.

  • monami Nov 15, 4:13 p.m.

Domestic violence IS a CHOICE. And he allegedly CHOSE to hit her with his truck.

When will women learn? That comment shows complete ignorance about the subject of domestic violence. It's exactly the mindset of the domestically violent person to blame the other person. Guess you can't fix stu...oh, never mind.

  • godnessgracious2 Nov 15, 4:02 p.m.

how can you logically blame the victim??

It doesn't sound as if this were an accident?

  • LetsBeFair Nov 15, 3:46 p.m.

looks like he'd do it again too!!

  • Obamacare for one and all Nov 15, 3:31 p.m.

This wouldn't have happened if he had a back up camera in the truck.

  • carolinarox Nov 15, 3:27 p.m.

Why? You don't know all the circumstances nor the presented evidence. The magistrate has mandated guidelines with which to set bail. This obviously was a low threshold threat or assault.
    stymieindurham

And you do? Please share, because there is nothing obvious about it. All of her injuries do not translate to a "low threshold" (whatever that is) assualt. It sounds more like assault with intent to kill.

  • spunkyisbackagain Nov 15, 3:22 p.m.

I, like monami, am not believing some of the comments. A lot of you appear to be rushing to make this the victim's fault, when nothing in the story indicates that is indeed the case.

If anything, based on the story above, the man *definitely* intended to run over his wife.

"that Guilette got into a physical and verbal argument with his wife in their front yard on Thursday. During the altercation, he backed his truck out of the driveway and ran over his wife while she was standing in the street, authorities said." The victim didn't run in front of the moving truck, she was standing in the street and he RAN OVER HER.

So unless you are seeing something I'm missing, how can you logically blame the victim??

"It would have been nice if the writer had done a better job. If he left her in a safe place (wherever he was backing away from in order to leave), and she intentionally left the safe place and was struck by his vehicle as she ws not in his path, sounds like a little bit of "shared responsibility"???"stymieindurham --- IE contributory negligence!

  • anneonymousone Nov 15, 2:28 p.m.

Decorated War Veteran, you wrote that the teacher who had this man in a middle school class "should have done a better job."

If you ask anyone who has taught for a while, he or she will tell you of former students who have gone on to do dreadful things. Do you REALLY hold us all responsible for everything that our former students do?

    If so, that means that I should also get a percentage of the paycheck of every former student who makes heaps of money (doing something other than teaching, no doubt). : }

  • jaydosse Nov 15, 1:44 p.m.

" allegedly ran over his wife with his pickup following a domestic dispute, authorities said Friday."

    =====================================

Very mean looking dude!! If true he should be charged with attempted murder since a moving vehicle is a murder weapon when used as an aggressive implement utilized to cause bodily harm and/or death to another human being!!!

  • monami Nov 15, 1:33 p.m.

It's unbelievable, all the comments intimating the victim is somehow responsible. The words "probable cause" come to mind.

  • stymieindurham Nov 15, 1:16 p.m.

Here's something else one should question. The article heading states the male "ran down" the victim. the article states the male "ran over" the victim. BIGGGGGGG differance. One is intentional and the other is not.

  • stymieindurham Nov 15, 1:13 p.m.

Just don't do the "obama care" on this guy!!! Read the (WHOLE) story before you pass it (your judgment).

  • pja1357 Nov 15, 1:04 p.m.

Unbelievable that he was released with only a $5,000 bond. Why wasn't he charged with assault with intent to kill also? A "low threshold threat"? Really - he ran over her with his truck and she was being treated for lacerations to the abdomen, pelvic, neck, face and arm, a concussion, a lower spine fracture and a hand fracture. That is a "low" threshold or assault. NOT!!

  • Decorated War Veteran Nov 15, 1:01 p.m.

taught this guy in middle school. He was out of control then and apparently nothing has changed.

Should have done a better job.

  • stymieindurham Nov 15, 12:59 p.m.

Released on a $5000 bond? That is ridiculous!

    Wow...he's a prize..NOT!

  • Obamacare for one and all Nov 15, 12:54 p.m.

And to think someone actually married him. *smh*

  • Obamacare for one and all Nov 15, 12:53 p.m.

A pickup truck is not considered a murder weapon in the south, it's more like a way of life.

  • Glass Half Full Nov 15, 12:52 p.m.

The value of a female life involved in domestic violence to our justice system, $5000, unsecured = $750.

  • lets_b_real79 Nov 15, 12:51 p.m.

So how is it that you know someone is behind you and you back over them with ill intent and it's not attempted murder?

  • jlsmith4758 Nov 15, 12:43 p.m.

The fact that the bond is so low tells me that it wasn't attempted murder... He probably got p*ssed off, hopped in his truck, she got behind him telling him not to go, and he backed up and hit her. I doubt he was out to kill her and ran her over in cold blood.

  • sophiemom Nov 15, 12:13 p.m.

Released on a $5000 bond? That is ridiculous!

  • sunshine1040 Nov 15, 12:03 p.m.

Hope she has the sense to tell him where to put his flowers when he visits her and says he is sorry. Sorry but it takes some of us women a while longer to find out a man is not going to change and stop abusing us

  • RAINDOG Nov 15, 12:01 p.m.

$5000.00 Bond ???????? He needs to be behind bars.

  • nascar33 Nov 15, 12:00 p.m.

Nice guy.. And they let him out??

  • timetochange Nov 15, 11:57 a.m.

taught this guy in middle school. He was out of control then and apparently nothing has changed.

  • WLDPIG Nov 15, 11:48 a.m.

really, should not try and blocking a moving car, just get out of the way

  • lets_b_real79 Nov 15, 11:45 a.m.

Are you seriously trying to justify him running her over. If she didn't move, he could have walked away, he could have backed around her, or yes, he could have called the cops. You don't back out of a driveway without looking where you are going. Probably didn't run because others saw what happened.

  • Fireflies Rock Nov 15, 11:32 a.m.

Seriously, he was released on $5000 bond??!!! Are you kidding me??? Assault with a deadly weapon? How about attempted murder and assault on a female added to that? So the victim is hospitalized with a broken back and numerous other injuries, and this guy is walking free? Wow, there's something very very wrong here

  • What Challenge Nov 15, 11:31 a.m.

people argue...and then people think they can stop people from doing things. the woman may have though hey ill stand in the street so he cant back out and leave...ole boy probably said watch and see. since there was no indication of a chase or hit and run...the leads to be believe that he did not leave the scene probably called the authorities and so on. hence why he is released on such a low amount. its hard to cast stones without knowing all the details.

  • mfarmer1 Nov 15, 11:24 a.m.

    big man

  • SharpEyes Nov 15, 11:22 a.m.

If I was in an argument with my wife and she got in the car angry to speed away the last thing I would do is stand in the middle of the road.

  • ginlee00 Nov 15, 11:15 a.m.

He was released???? Someone needs to get a bodyguard to protect the wife !!

  • justaconservativeguy Nov 15, 11:14 a.m.

$5000 dollar bond for attempted murder. Are you kidding me?
