I think I saw the same thing in a Panthers game recently: the call was reversed, but the penalty was enforced. I hope this can be changed, as the current rules can be game changers and the wrong team/players are punished.

LOL! I love it. It certainly has to be a different one.

This may be the dumbest rule ever in college football. If an official believes a player may have "targeted" a defenseless player, he is required to call a penalty and eject the offending player. However, EVERY such call must be reviewed.

If the review shows that the player was NOT guilty of targeting, his ejection is overturned. However, by rule, penalties are not reviewable, so the penalty must stand even though a review shows it didn't happen. If that's not nuts, I don't know what is.

Also, since no penalty was called against Mitchell for initiating the helmet to helmet contact, he can't be penalized by the review of the play. I would hope this will be fixed dfuring the offseason.

I think they'll be there also. State has a good following. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't out number the Devils.

  • The Beatles Nov 2, 2013

I would expect Pete Thomas from State to get the starting job on QB very soon. He looks like he actually knows how to run the offense and make some plays. That late offensive drive with 13 seconds left made me realize that he was the man for the job.

  • joeBob Nov 2, 2013

I dont know which was worse, the play calling, the officiating, or the ineptitude of the pack. Carolina's got nothing and neither does State. Bad played the worse today.

  • Native NC gal Nov 2, 2013

North Carolina is the TAR HEEL state.

A poster and a little field paint can never change that.

  • 903 Oct 17th and 1 win Nov 2, 2013

^Yes, it will be (if and only if Mitchell can play). Duke's coming off a bye week and should be back at 100% health-wise. There's going to be a big sense of urgency for both teams as Duke is a winnable game for State and on the Duke side, this is the most winnable game left with Miami, @Wake and @UNC remaining and no more bye weeks.

The State/Duke game should be a good game. State will have a chip on their shoulder and Duke will want to make a STATE-ment win.

  • The Beatles Nov 2, 2013

Very glad I watched this one on television. The only thing more disappointing than a State loss to me is spending hundreds of dollars to watch a State loss.

maybe, Just MAYBE, AD Ms You deserves ANOTHER $50K bonus for the wonderful job she is doing, realize of course there is no where in the NC State program that could use the $50K more than AD Ms Yow...really...a $50K bonus in these times of fiscal austerity, where is the outrage wolfpack followers or maybe you are just happy with the way the NC State athletic program is moving but not sure in what direction???

  • 903 Oct 17th and 1 win Nov 2, 2013

^they'll still come, but not as many will come as when they are the ones favored by a TD or more...

You really think so? Durham isn't far, and I would think that State would want to be there to support their team. If I were Cut, I wouldn't take State lightly. Today's game was ugly, and while I'm glad Carolina won, this game does only show who the tallest midget is. State is still capable of beating teams in the ACC.

But at least it will just be the team coming to Wallace Wade next weekend. I doubt many of their fans will make the effort to come over for the game and opt to watch it on TV instead after this loss.

Don't throw in the towel yet. State only needs three more wins to get to a bowl. Carolina had more than their share of boneheaded costly penalties that negated some of the good things that their defense did. This was an ugly grind it out game. Your baseball team does look awesome, though.

  • DowntownGirl Nov 2, 2013

Be careful what you wish for. State may be carrying a pretty big grudge coming into the game next week.

  • OriginalTarHeel Nov 2, 2013

Way to go Heels! How about the Our State slogan now? LOL

  • The Beatles Nov 2, 2013

State's defense did a decent job. The State loss was a result of offensive line penalties and poor passing by the starting QB who had difficulty getting to the end zone while throwing several heartbreaking interceptions in the second half. UNC showed more poise by committing fewer penalties, making interceptions, better offensive execution, and the ability to find the end zone when it counted. UNC was the better team today who made a key win in Carter Finley and at least has a chance for a bowl bid this season. State will have an even more difficult time playing the Blue Devils at Wallace Wade Stadium since Duke is having the best season of any team around here. As a State alumnus, I will be looking forward to a winning baseball season and wish the football team better luck next season.

And I'd like to see a game where a TD isn't called back because of a penalty. I think last week against BC was the first game they didn't have to give up a TD due to a penalty.

  • douggie64 Nov 2, 2013

Still shaking my head over the "personal foul" on the woofie QB Mitchell at the sidelines. Replay clearly showed he initiated the contact. Not to mention the OBVIOUS block in the back before he got out of bounds that wasn't called. Glad to see those blown calls didn't cost us the game.

Agreed - all those boneheaded penalties - what a lack of discipline. Fedora needs to put a stop to that.
