This is a NC problems, why does NC need the federal government to come in a clean its' house. I would hope our elected official can handle this, if nothing else they should have a chance to do so before we start crying to the federal government.

"One of the defendants, David Evans, is the son of a particularly well placed Washington power couple. His father, attorney David C. Evans, is a managing partner in 1000-member Reed Smith, among the 20 largest law firms in the world. The firm employs Duke law grads among others and has extensive political ties, mostly GOP, solidified through its PAC.

That's why Congressman Jones got involved. Don't expect him to extend that courtesy to the little guy, but if a rich white boy is wrongly accused, Jones will stop at nothing to get him off the hook.

  • GWALLY Apr 12, 2007

PDMARTIN........GWally (correct spelling) here, yes as a matter of fact I am on a soapbox......better to be on one with the truth than hiding under one with a lie!!!!!!!!!!!! Bush done it, Bush done it, my whole life is ruined, cause Bush done it. Wake up my friend and get out from under the soapbox!!!!

  • inmyopinion3 Apr 12, 2007

Republicans are ok (as are Democrats for that matter. I sway back and forth with who I think is the better candidate rather than blind party ploitics) but Bush is an IDIOT no matter what your political allegances, if you cant see that you are politically blind! Congressmen/women should be woring harder to reduce Gas costs, energy costs, taxes etc etc instead of trying to score cheap political points from a case everybody knows was a mess from the start!

  • spookysoldierworm Apr 12, 2007

"but a powerful CONGRESSMAN who is neglecting the real needs of his district to coddle the lacrosse players whose parents give lots of money to....anybody? anybody?

yes, to the Republican party" Chris.Nelson420

Can you PROVE that statement? Or cite a reference? Have you read the TOS for WRAL? Specifically the part about 'Prohibited Content By using our site, you agree that you will not post or otherwise make available any content or material that:

    * is false, deceptive, misleading, deceitful or misinformative;"

You sound like you're posting politically motivated gossip.....again.

  • PDMARTIN Apr 12, 2007

or should it be Gee Wally, are you on a soapbox or what????
NIfong's an idiot and Bush is a couple lengths ahead of him.

  • GWALLY Apr 12, 2007

Yea, Yea....blame it on the Republicans......don't forget Bush, I'm sure he is at fault somehow! Lets you forget, "easy" Easly appointed Nifong!! Now, I suppose, you think Easly is a Bush problem also??

  • I hear voices Apr 12, 2007

I'm in no way trying to defend Nifong; however, had he not at least investigated with such vigorus means the Al Sharptens and such would have had a field day. He went about it wrong but he had to do something. He was in a lose lose situation.

  • Matthew 19_21 Apr 12, 2007

we should all be so lucky as the lacrosse players. Like their attorney said, this kind of thing goes on a thousand times a day, but most of us would just rot in jail if it happened to us.
These guys however have not only money, and public opinion on their side, but a powerful CONGRESSMAN who is neglecting the real needs of his district to coddle the lacrosse players whose parents give lots of money to....anybody? anybody?

    yes, to the Republican party

  • suchhappiness Apr 12, 2007

Calling for the Feds to investigate? That's like asking the fox to guard the hen house.

  • Dave Green Apr 12, 2007

Hmmm. Wonder who else is going to hitch on to the 15 minutes of fame spot light for this story...

I guess Walter missed the boat claiming to be Anna Nicole's baby's father so this was the next best thing. :)

  • IzzMad2016 Apr 12, 2007

TYPO!! -- I meant "you deserve everything you get."

  • IzzMad2016 Apr 12, 2007

By all means let's investigate Mr. Nifong -- and let's not forget that ever important "taste of your own medicine" which should include media blitzes, lies, withholding evidence that might prove you are innocent (well, maybe not in this case), changing the charges to fit whatever flimsy evidence is available, etc. And DO NOT go getting your feelings hurt and everything you get.

  • GWALLY Apr 12, 2007

Was posted-"Looking back this has been the absolute worst thing Durham needed. It has raised racial tensions in a city that just didn't need it. Nifong played people for political gains and than the other people were angry at those who were suckered be this guy. Thanks Nifong, thanks a lot ya jerk.

    Resident of Durham"

You can ONLY be played if you WANT to be played!!!!! People of Durham WANTED the story (as they knew it........enter the news media) to be true and they VOTED the story and not the man!!!! These guys should sue the voters of Durham as well!!!!!!!! What a wonderful day for the attorneys........every where they look$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  • Doctor Dataclerk Apr 12, 2007

To not prosecute Nifong with all of the evidence against him is as ridiculous as him prosecuting these boys with no evidence against them. Disbarrment is a joke, a twenty year Butner vacation would be justice after he has to sell all of his worldly possessions and pay these three boys back. Not because he made a mistake, but because he willfully and knowingly railroaded these boys and possibly others in order to secure election. Additionaly, he should be stripped of all state benefits and retirement. All of our current incarcerated political crooks still draw state and/or federal about injustice.

  • Top Dog Apr 12, 2007

did it once he will do it again, who is to say he hasent done it before but didnt get caught till now,

  • normalthinking Apr 12, 2007

every conviction that Nifong has gotten should be overturned or at least reviewed on the basis that he is a proven liar

  • goobnav Apr 12, 2007

Nifong's resume should read Disbarred and Disgraced in Durham. Being that he was appointed by Gov. "friend" Easley, the federal investigation should extend to the lack of response by the Executive branch of NC's government, the NCDOJ had the power to step in and stop this maddeness before it got out of hand. A simple request from the Gov. and Atty Gen., to recuse and to allow a fair investigation to be done, instead of a State Bar investigation should have caused Nifong to step down. Justice will prevail and I hope the US Atty's office in Raleigh will put Nifong in Butner to see his mistakes in person.

  • WXYZ Apr 12, 2007

How many other innocent people has NIFONG and his cronies sent to prison? EVERY case that NIFONG EVER touched should be thoroughly scrutinized by the FEDERAL government. The DA's office in Durham must be completely cleaned of NIFONG's corruption, zealotry and lies. ALL those who are found to have been wrongly prosecuted should receive another chance a fair and unbiased justice. There but for the Grace of God go I. CRYSTAL GAIL MANGUM, you deserve to go to prison for your lies.

  • goheels Apr 12, 2007

I commend Rep. Jones and the seven others who are calling for a thorough federal investigation. This is the best way to get Nifong out for good!! He needs to go, and should be criminally charged for the things he has done in this case. No one else should ever be subjected to this kind of treatment.....I am so glad it was not a family member of mine, as we would not have had the financial resources to defend against something like this. NIFONG NEEDS TO GO NOW !!!!!!!

  • kmason910 Apr 12, 2007

Maybe he will take Gonzales' place as US Attorney General---he's done a "heckuva job" here, and would fit in nicely with the Bush administration. Someone send his resume to Rove and Cheney.

  • 1Raleigh native Apr 12, 2007

It's a political show off move. The exact same thing that NIFONG did. There is no reason to waste the resources of the FBI... if the bar - disbars Nifong then the issue is solved. This isnt like Jim Black and it isnt about money... Nifong made a gamble for political Power in getting the Black vote in Durham to go after rich white guys who allegeded by a black stripper - did things that the AG found they didnt do. Nifong will get his. Let this process play out... and keep the Feds out of it.

What about Jesse Jackson... didnt he come down here and call those boys rapists... where is the appoligy... and now Jesse is climbing all over IMUS... can you say hypocrit.

  • jimlu Apr 12, 2007

All the NC State Bar can do is disbar Nifong (and he can even apply for reinstatement later!!!). They can't put him in jail. They can't even fine him a nickel.

I don't expect to hear any corporate announcements about relocating to Durham in the near future! Way to go Durham voters. You elected a winner, didn't you?

  • Corvette Sales Apr 12, 2007

He's gone. NIFONG will be out of here soon. Good bye and thanks for stirring up so much it.

I left out to letters. LOL

  • GWALLY Apr 12, 2007

It is called piling on!!!! When the news first broke, all the NAACP Rev.'s, Duke University, Faculty, Students, News networks, Newspaper, and so called experts were just delighted!!! The rich white boys were GUILTY!!!!! Now were have they all gone?????????????? EVERY SINGLE ONE of these groups NOW want Nifongs head (got to have someone to blame so there lillywhite reputations are not soiled)!!!!!! Nifong was wrong, it's now proven!!All you people that jumped on the first bandwagon have found yourself with egg, mud, etc. all over your face and you NOW want to blame it all on Nifong!!!! Step up to the plate and reap the rewards of being IDIOTS for believing what all the news organizations fed you!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here little doggies let me feed you some more tainted news, you liked the last meal so well!!! Anyone for some IMUS soup, it's on special today!!!!!

  • 68_polara Apr 12, 2007

Looking back this has been the absolute worst thing Durham needed. It has raised racial tensions in a city that just didn't need it. Netfong played people for political gains and than the other people were angry at those who were suckered be this guy. Thanks Nifong, thanks a lot ya jerk.

  • Mmaker52 Apr 12, 2007

I personnally think it is time for Walter Jones to go home and hide...I get so sick of his mouth...RETIRE Walter

  • spiritwarriorwoman Apr 12, 2007

No easy outs for this guy I believe! When Cooper dropped all the charges AND proclaimed the fellows INNOCENT, it spelled a huge problem for Nifong - which is as it should be. He withheld evidence which is against the law in any court in the land.

    God bless.

    Rev. RB

  • NC_VET Apr 12, 2007

Nice job Mr. Nifong!!! you are going to cost the taxpaying
people of Durham a bunch due to your actions. Do you hear foot-
steps? It's the sound of the State Bar coming after you.

  • painexpress Apr 12, 2007
