I don't understand why we are wasting tax dollars on this murderer. Surveillance video showed him carrying the child. That's just like catching one of my children eating a cookie, but then they tell me that they haven't been in the cookie jar! If he did not kill the child, he knows who did. And more than likely, if he did not kill the child, he still had something to do with it. This trial needs to be over quickly, and he needs to get the death penalty: the short version. Let him sit on death row for about a week.

  • luv2funrun May 16, 10:49 a.m.

This story really tells me no more than yesterday's story. What really is the addition?? And if he didn't commit this crime, he knows who did. Looking at him makes me sick to my stomach!! According to the story that aired on yesterday, he picked her up from the front porch at 2:00 a.m.?? Her mother should face just as harsh a penalty. The aunt also. How sickening!

  • vile garbage May 16, 9:14 a.m.

I hope if he gets off it never happens again. But if it does I hope it's someone close to his tourney that is working so hard to get this obviously guilty person off.

  • WakeCountyGirl May 16, 8:18 a.m.

The father's sister had custodial rights for Shaniya. He chose to pick the child up and take her to her mother's filthy home.

  • mewuvbb May 15, 7:59 p.m.

This is American Yes, but if he would have been in prison for what he was guilty of in the first place, the little girl would still be with us. Wish they would bring her so called "Mom" to the stand to connect the dots for this scum of the earth. He is guilty cause if he wasn't he would tell who was. I hope for the sake of the angel that was destroyed on her last day on earth JUSTICE will Be Served.

"I want to know where her father is he sitting in court, standing up for her? He let her down once, is he there for her now, or out living his life?"

Why say this? What do you personally know about him or his relationship with his daughter? Fathers don't give birth, and children usually remain with their mothers unless parents have an agreement or a court order. Obviously the "mother" was in control and used the child for money.

  • welfarequeen May 15, 6:40 p.m.

This is America, he is INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty. It ain't the old testament baby!

  • Alexia May 15, 6:04 p.m.

"They're trying to charge me with everything"

I wonder if there were accomplices to the crime and he does not want to give up names.

Oh, my.....isn't he just the cat's meow? i would put no faith whatsoever in anything he said. Let him gab all he wants. I just hope the jurors can see right through this warped, evil man.

"The man admitted he killed her months ago"....lessismore

He said that was a slip of the tongue. lol...put this guy in his permanent new home already.

  • monami May 15, 4:40 p.m.

Oh, I so want to see that interrogation video!

  • URADA May 15, 4:39 p.m.

And volunteers had already searched that area earlier and did not find the body. They even had dogs that didn't find her. They re-searched after McNeill gave the info and found the body covered by a log and vegetation.

  • URADA May 15, 4:38 p.m.

"From the looks of things, he is gaining nothing. He is being foolish not listening to his lawyer. He thinks he knows all. In the end, he will wish he had listen."

Um, I said he had everything to gain by giving info. if someone else killed her. Quotes tend to not make sense when you take them out of context.

  • lessismore May 15, 4:37 p.m.

It was McNeill that showed law enforcement where her body was.....

  • lessismore May 15, 4:36 p.m.

The man admitted he killed her months ago....not he wants to plead not guilty????? The child's mother gave him the baby in payment for drugs....sickening. If he didn't kill her, what did he do with her???

  • 678devilish May 15, 4:20 p.m.

and everything to gain. Occam's Razor

From the looks of things, he is gaining nothing. He is being foolish not listening to his lawyer. He thinks he knows all. In the end, he will wish he had listen.

  • Gnocchi May 15, 4:05 p.m.

The previous article that WRAL had immediately after her body was found doesn't indicate that information from McNeill led them to her body, and that she was found in an area search by volunteers:

"Searchers focused on an area about 6 miles from the last confirmed sighting of Shaniya. She was seen on security video at the Comfort Suites hotel in Sanford, along with a man who police believe is McNeill, last Tuesday morning.

Chance said volunteers assisting in the search found the body about 100 feet off Walker Road."

  • 678devilish May 15, 3:59 p.m.

"I don't believe he killed her."

If he did not kill this child, then he needs to start telling the truth right now. The evidence and etc. is there.

  • lprop May 15, 3:54 p.m.

No telling how many more time bombs walking around that a judge let walk. Like drug court. Put them in the judges neighborhood if they want to let them go.

  • 678devilish May 15, 3:52 p.m.

My opinion is that he took this child's life. What I do not understand is why these certain people commit a crime and then believe they will beat any and all evidence proving the person did it. If he wants his true freedom, then I suggest this young man tell the absolute truth. Then again, if he did not take this child's life, how in the world did he know where to show the police where the child's body was. HE DID IT!

  • URADA May 15, 3:40 p.m.

He killed her. If he hadn't he would have told who did by now. He has nothing to lose by telling and everything to gain. Occam's Razor

  • GravyPig May 15, 3:38 p.m.

"great way for him to declare innocence without having to testify." - Jat

How do you think that will happen? He is opening up his prior offenses to the jury, and he starts out lying to police and slowly starts telling bits of truth.

"did he say on tape where the body was?" - Jat

I see your confusion now. You never read the article. I'll play though. No, they didn't say if this information was recorded or not, but he provided them with that information at some point.

  • emprezzinez May 15, 3:38 p.m.

I do not think he killed her. I don't think he raped her either. I DO think he knows who did, or knows more. In that case, he is guilty. His hands are dirty either way. The fact that he lies is sick the streets

  • JAT May 15, 3:35 p.m.

have the police actually said in court that he told them where she was? the initial articles all said that the cops pulled into a Walmart parking lot and some old woman (whose name they didn't get) told them to go look there.

  • jackflash123 May 15, 3:25 p.m.

"I'd LOVE to be on this jury. I can't imagine anyone killing a child this way and if he walks he probably won't walk long."

You're pretty much eliminating yourself from eligibility for any jury w/ statements like this.

"I don't believe he killed her."

    Why is that?

  • vile garbage May 15, 2:48 p.m.

I'd LOVE to be on this jury. I can't imagine anyone killing a child this way and if he walks he probably won't walk long.

  • mojaintsmall May 15, 2:39 p.m.

He has guilty written all over him.

  • killing_me_softly May 15, 2:34 p.m.

I don't believe he killed her.

  • GravyPig May 15, 2:23 p.m.

Well, it certainly sounds like having the jury hear his police interview is going to help.

It just doesn't seem to help him or his case.

  • Blue Devil 2 May 15, 2:22 p.m.

Sounds like he is quilty to me, by showing the authorities where Shaniya body was.

  • dwntwnboy2 May 15, 2:22 p.m.

He should have taken the plea deal- may be the only thing that might save him from a death penalty. The ONLY way he knew where her body was located was if HE put it there or HE knew who did, and he hasn't given them any other names. I can't imagine the "no snitching" code is worth losing your own life over. If there was someone else involved in this, he would be singing like a canary long before now.

  • emprezzinez May 15, 2:01 p.m.

    smh sick

  • melmika May 15, 1:59 p.m.

He eventually gave police information that led investigators to 5 year old Shaniya's body.

  • sunshine1040 May 15, 1:59 p.m.

And yet other judges let him back on the streets to kill or shoot at even more people. It is time to have judges that will put criminals behind bars where they belong

  • JAT May 15, 1:58 p.m.
