“And now, we have his motive. Money.” – observantone18

You can construct a potential motive out of about anything. But when is the state going to provide proof he did it?

  • observantone18 May 15, 7:57 p.m.

Today, in testimony, heard that Raven Abaroa had purchased a $500K Life Insurance policy on his wife Janet. He submitted a claim but the claim has not been paid out since he was a POI, then a suspect, then arrested.

And now, we have his motive. Money.

Raven Abaroa, convicted felony embezzler, serial adulterer, known liar, unable to get a job (hard to do that with a felony conviction for embezzlement) had a motive.

Kill his wife, who he didn't seem to respect anyways, as demonstrated by his treatment of her and his multiple affairs. Kill her, and collect her life insurance. $500K would buy a lot of toys. $500K would set Raven up quite well for a long time. Motive is money.

Set up the crime perfectly, get away with it, and collect $500K.

@ripetomatoes: with all respect, based upon sworn witness testimony, Raven Abaroa is much more than just a "mean man"
Raven Abaroa has been shown to be:

    a convicted felon (felony embezzlement)
a known adulterer (many, many affairs during his marriage)
a known liar (so many stories and lies, nothing matches)
a poor man with rich tastes - making $30K per year but huge bills due to his outrageous spending
a convicted felon will have a hard time finding a new job
Raven collected Knives Raven's wife, Janet Abaroa was murdered by a Knife Per testimony, Raven was asking around before the murder about the cost of a $500K life insurance policy for his wife Raven was controlling Raven was devious Raven was manipulative - using charm to get his way Per LE testimony today, crime scene was undisturbed - meaning no signs of a struggle or fight. Meaning the victim was murdered by someone she knew sneaking up behind her.

So it is more than Raven being a mean man. He is much worse than that.

"Some witnesses said he's a mean man."

    "Is that enough to convict?"
    ripetomatoes

He's a sociopath.....I'd be willing to bet my $360 million winnning Powerball ticket that he's guilty.

Some witnesses said he's a mean man.

    Is that enough to convict?

The prosecution had witnesses testify very early as to the extreme financial difficulties faced by Raven Abaroa, so extensive that he stole from his company, Eurosports. Raven was charged and convicted of felony embezzlement.

The prosecution also had ample testimony of Raven Abaroa's multiple affairs while he was married to the victim. He was married but didn't want to be, but thought it might look bad to get divorced.

So IMO, the motive was there - extreme financial distress, the affairs, the controlling and abusive treatment of his wife = Motive. Means = testimony that victim was stabbed, and Raven Abaroa collected Knives. Opportunity = testimony stating the lack of disturbance at the crime scene. Baby in bed in the other room. Victim was a strong, physically fit young woman. If she thought someone was going to kill her, she would have fought back. Raven snuck up on her from behind and killed her.

Raven had all three: means, motive and opportunity.

and keeping up with the Jones's.....a popular trend in Raleigh.

    Obamacare

With the divorce rate so high, what American Dream or you speaking of. Married soon to be 35 years and PROUD OF IT! Oh,and with the same man all these years. WOO WHO...

  • Obamacare survives May 15, 4:16 p.m.

Why don't people who are married just get a divorce and stay away from each other. Those who are single should depart and stay away from each. Who wants to spend their life bickering each and every second of the day? That certainly is not happiness.

I thought it was all about achieving the American Dream and keeping up with the Jones's.....a popular trend in Raleigh.

still no hard evidence that he did it.

  • whoami May 15, 3:12 p.m.

There is still, after 60 witnesses, no specific evidence proving the husband did it. I smell a hung jury at best.

  • Terkel May 15, 2:59 p.m.

Please clear up this headline. If the detective, Charles Sole, is being questioned by "her husband's attorneys," then "she" was married to him at some point. Help me out here.
