Can they just put him in general population and save the tax payers some money

  • caroexc May 7, 7:46 p.m.

with the last name of Shaniya's half sister being Locklear save the state some money and let him out of jail. Locklear's will give him the justice he deserves.

  • mike275132 May 7, 7:45 p.m.

    An another fine NC Citizen.

  • timexliving May 7, 7:22 p.m.

"Can the state not afford him a hair cut?"

I was just about to post something similar. It would behoove McNeil to cut off that mess and look a little more civilized. Then after he's convicted he can let it grow out as long as he wants on death row.

  • stymieindurham May 7, 6:51 p.m.

Can the state not afford him a hair cut?

  • kimisufu May 7, 6:46 p.m.

I think Antoinette and Mario need to see what the jury saw today, every single day.

  • highcountry May 7, 6:30 p.m.

I hope he gets whats coming to him!! He is a diseased menace to society.

  • Plum Tuckered May 7, 6:13 p.m.

His "hairstyle" makes him look like a dog.

I don't mind that he continues to look like a gangster (and a fool, IMO), but why does the prison system allow long hair?

  • scotlandlover May 7, 6:11 p.m.

I agree that the father is so responsible.Didn't he know the environment that the little girl was living in.It's my understanding from news reports that he took her back to her mom in her overcrowded drug infested home.He should be held accountable.

  • jscott13 May 7, 6:09 p.m.

This person is unbelievable. Usually lawyers make people cut their hair before a trial. I hope this means that this lawyer doesn't think there is any need to do that because he knows he will lose.

  • scotlandlover May 7, 6:08 p.m.

It really sickens me that when he is convicted,it will take another 20 years for him to die on death row. Please jury, convict this scum!

  • Boogalooboy May 7, 6:07 p.m.

We really need to make note of the lawyers who take these cases and make sure everyone else knows who they are... hopefully run them out of business by not having any....

but secondly , maybe he shouldn't get the death penalty, if he is convicted, I understand inmates love to have child molesters/killers around.... something for them to mess with...

  • sunshine1040 May 7, 5:48 p.m.

Sorry but some people should never be allowed to give birth or father a child. And yet this woman will not even be given the death penalty. I know he will not ever receive death at the states hand but sure would be nice if they both could be tortured as this child was

  • Amp May 7, 5:13 p.m.

I hope Central Prison's executioner is waiting on the call to come and kill him.

  • jetset May 7, 5:10 p.m.

Good golly Miss Molly....this guy is a piece of work.

  • thinkb4uspeakplz May 7, 4:32 p.m.

I agree he should be put to death...he deserves that. However, the argument cannot be the expense of tax payers to house this man in prison. It has been proven that it is cheaper to house a man in prison for the rest of his life than to put him to death. The appeals etc... that are allowed and required in the death penalty rack up more costs than just throwing him in the prison. We need to revamp the appeals process and limit the amount they have if they are found guilty of a capital crime. Punish should always be certain, severe and swift...deviating from any of these makes it less effective and less of lesson for others.

  • LIR May 7, 4:16 p.m.

Beautiful little girl - so sad she will never know the joy of life - running and playing with her friends.....I'll always remember her and Zyra Baker.

  • southernborn24 May 7, 4:15 p.m.

........and just what was this child's dad doing during all this. I understand that he is white and the mother was black..apparently this was no problem during conception - why was he not looking out for her during life???

  • NomoreKoolaid May 7, 3:43 p.m.

He will never be put to death. The back log is too long and since there has not one been put to death in seven years it would be twenty or thirty more years he would live.. He will live a sheltered well taken care of life at the taxpayers expense. Thanks to the liberal like Rev. Barber and company.

  • tigresspen May 7, 3:03 p.m.

This piece of sewer slime deserves nothing except death penalty. They have his pic with her at that motel elevator. They have his own words saying he was waiting on call to kill. He led them to body. He is Guilty and I say that with assurance and without guilt that I am not waiting for defense case in chief before making my decision as a couch juror on verdict.

  • Proud Black Constitutionalist May 7, 3:00 p.m.

If he does get the death penalty, I'm sure the libs will invoke the racial justice act.

  • girlwonders May 7, 2:36 p.m.

It's a shame neither of them will ever truly understand what they put this poor, innocent child through. They'll never know her horror or her pain no matter what we do to them. Even if we did "an eye for an eye" it wouldn't truly be the same thing. Death penalty? Life in prison? Assaulted and killed by fellow inmates? They're still getting off easy compared to Shaniya. They're not helpless children. They're not being betrayed by their mother. They would see it coming. They would know the reason why. Give them the harshest punishment possible, but know that it's not nearly punishment enough.--mattcli

Word on the streets in Fayetteville is that the grandmother did the same thing to her mother. I have several people who work on my jobsite who know this female, and they say that the mother's mother "turned her out" at around 9. So sad, she should have known better. I have no sympathy for either of them, that little girl should have never been with her mother.

  • jwstevens04 May 7, 2:34 p.m.

What kind of mother betrays the trust of their child, like that? I'd go down fighting for my children....I just don't understand. And then there's this guy...who laughs and giggles? I should stop...he's a waste of my breath, even talking about him. UGH!

  • stymieindurham May 7, 2:19 p.m.

Any bets the left-wing "racial justice" people aren't sitting back and taking notes???

  • feistyredhead2001 May 7, 2:09 p.m.

The man accused of raping and killing a 5-year-old Fayetteville girl more than three years ago made a chilling statement to police searching for the girl that he "was waiting to get a call to come and kill her."...... IF THEY DO NOT SENTENCE HIM TO DEATH AND QUICKLY I WILL BE FED UP WITH OUR LEGAL SYSTEM AND EVERYONE IN IT !!!! He is truly a monster !

  • injesuswecanwin May 7, 1:59 p.m.

cbuckyoung, you are 100% right. The lives of innocent children and babies should always be protected, cherished and valued.

  • injesuswecanwin May 7, 1:54 p.m.

I cannot even begin to imagine how anyone could be so evil to do these things to anyone, but especially to children. It is so sickening. For a mom to sell her child, and for a man to go to a child...it is beyond comprehension. I know this is hard on these jurors, but I have full confidence they will do whatever is needed to never allow this man to get to another little child. He will get what is coming to him.

  • mattcli May 7, 1:42 p.m.

  • tiblet May 7, 1:03 p.m.

I have not read why they are not seeking the death penalty for the mother...is it because they offered her a deal for evidence against the killer? There must be a reason....

  • jockeyshiftspringer May 7, 12:52 p.m.

"OMG I'd love to make this man pay for what he did. ..." vile garbage

Unfortunately, you will pay for what he did. So will I. :(

  • sssh.. whisper May 7, 12:43 p.m.

I really wish the "mother" would face the death penalty... Such a horrible thing. They both need to rot in hell! No child should have to suffer, especially from the people they are supposed to be able to trust completely. RIP angel.

  • outdoor592000 May 7, 12:32 p.m.

    Heartbreaking...........I have no words.

  • littleriver69 May 7, 12:29 p.m.

Death penalty for this guy. No doubt at all.

  • sweetlyght May 7, 12:14 p.m.

The killer's real name? Satan, masquerading as Soulless McNeill. Who would not cringe? Horrible, and while I did not know her,it doesn't matter. Nonody protected that child. The ones who should have and could did not, and the other one buried his head in the sand. PEOPLE: protect your children and watch out for others.
    Just Plain Common Sense

The father of this child took very good care of her. The little girl did not live with her mother, and had only gone to see her for a visit. Lots of people loved and protected this child... the sad thing is her mother was not one of those people.

  • Country Girlz Have MORE fun May 7, 12:13 p.m.

"A member of Shaniya's family ran out of the courtroom in tears"...no doubt it was Aunt Carrie. She seems to love that baby like her own and has showed more concern & emotion than anyone. I just want to hug that poor woman. I can't imagine her pain.

  • zenonx6 May 7, 11:30 a.m.

I have the highest disgust for the people who killed the children in the last few years,,, What in the world possese these sorry human beings?

  • racheliza May 7, 11:30 a.m.

Her mother should ABSOLUTELY face the death penalty for selling her child over a drug debt. She as just as guilty as the killer. I'm so sorry for the rest of this family.

  • vile garbage May 7, 11:26 a.m.

OMG I'd love to make this man pay for what he did. It would be 50 times worse.

  • Country Girlz Have MORE fun May 7, 11:25 a.m.

I thought what was released before trial was horrible...this story is getting worse with each day. That poor baby did not deserve to even be near these monsters. I'm sure there are more monster out there...watch your children and all children...keep them safe.

  • cdhrtp May 7, 11:18 a.m.

Would love to hear the logic behind NOT going for death penalty for this vile egg donor - can't call her a mother. If she sold her daughter for her drug debt, her actions are even worse in some ways.
