So what if he is seeing things,What about what that poor child went through. I say he deserves no less than the death penalty and the same for the mother that let him have the child. Go back to capital punishment for these terrible crimes and even a CRAZY person may think about not doing the crime. JMHO

  • Billy the Kid Apr 26, 2013

This act deserves and Oscar! He should move to Hollywood.

  • Walkin Man Apr 26, 2013

He's faking it, what a joke.

  • iron fist Apr 26, 2013

IMO if he did kill this child he is delusional if he thinks he can get a free pass because a psychologist says he is delusional. I guess the mother was delusional too when she traded her daughter for drugs.

  • joannespann Apr 26, 2013

It is a shame one of the "aura" he sees isn't the poor little murdered girl telling him to confess to his horrible crime. The little girl he was sane enough to rape, murder and then dump her body in a rural field. What a crock of stinky stuff.

  • If the shoe fits.... Apr 26, 2013

Delusional like a fox. He committed the crime, he pays the price.

  • Jimmytwotimes Apr 26, 2013

smart move mcneil, act crazy at your psych evaluation so you don't get sentenced to death.

  • kimisufu Apr 26, 2013

The only delusions/illusions he needs to be seeing is Shaniya's ghost haunting him every minute of his life.

they should be ashamed of themselves letting this kangaroo tactic fly..............

  • ellengraham5660 Apr 26, 2013

This is a stall tactic and he should have been evaluated months and months ago. What a crock of bull...........

  • what_in_the____ Apr 26, 2013

Another example as to why the Criminal Justice System is a joke. Criminals know how the system works. They know right from wrong. They choose to break the law & then "play the game" once they are arrested. This is nothing short of ridiculously pathetic.

  • itsmyownopinion Apr 26, 2013

Yeah, he's crazy like a fox.

  • Glass Half Full Apr 26, 2013

MALINGERING - That's what he's doing. He wasn't crazy when he kidnapped, raped, and killed this little girl. He hasn't been crazy in prison. He wasn't crazy when he wrote letters to the Fayetteville Observer. He wasn't crazy when he turned down a deal offered by prosecuters. Now that he's chosen to face trial with a possible death sentence he's finally realizing he's not going to just walk away from what he's done. Time to face the consequences of his actions. I hope he's not as convincing as he wants to be.

  • wayneboyd Apr 26, 2013

Carolina Sweetheart...It wouldn't hurt to take a closer look at the shrinks credentials either.

  • Scubagirl Apr 26, 2013

" McNeill was adamant that there was nothing wrong with him,"

Good enough for me, should be good enough for everyone else as well!

  • orangemoonlite Apr 26, 2013

OK, @welfarequeen...are you serious? or dillusional as well? Hope you're not on the jury. This guy is how old & no one has ever noticed his dillusions before? He's never hallucinated since being in jail? His conscience is finally catching up with him...

  • Scubagirl Apr 26, 2013

HE WASN'T SEEING THINGS WHEN HE DID THIS!@!!!!!! WHY the hello did they NOT do this eval 3 years ago.......This is disgusting on the part of EVERYONE involved-the lawyer, the judge EVERYONE.

  • traumamama Apr 26, 2013

It's a shame to me this "psychiatric evaluation" was not done when he spent all those months in jail and now holding up beginning of trial. This is just right out bull. As well as the psychiatrist diagnosis!!!

  • monami Apr 26, 2013

Hold on. First, personality disorders aren't psychoses and should never result in an "incompetent"decision; next, what the heck has been his mental status SINCE 2009??? -is this a RECENT development?; third, a 2 hour evaluation, are you kidding me?; then, the symptoms don't match the diagnoses (e.g., antisocial does not have a hallucination symptom); and lastly, oh SURE SOPHIA is telling him stuff!! Good old Sophia - she shows up at the most convenient times...

And this is pure emotion speaking, but why oh why should the mother not face the death penalty? I don't even support the death penalty, yet I feel she is the most evil and deserving of all.

  • torchhappysean Apr 26, 2013

Let me get this straight... He was competent enough to trade drugs for a little girl that he then raped and murdered but he isnt competent enough to stand trial for it??? What a poor excuse for justice our legal system has become....

  • Fireflies Rock Apr 26, 2013

gee there's a surprise....and just in time for his trial

  • woodrock223 Apr 26, 2013

    wow......what a piece of work

  • jb100 Apr 26, 2013

Wow, I cant believe it! He is ACTING crazy...go figure

  • The Carolina Sweetheart Apr 26, 2013

Our Justice System is in serious need of an overhaul! If he was insane, he wouldn't have hidden that poor baby in a kudzu patch - he would have just left her wherever he committed the horific acts! This beautiful baby girl was tormented & killed and now our tax $$ may be spent for him to live out his life in a Mental facility. He hasn't displayed any signs of mental defect since the comission of these crimes, he plead not guilty bc he claims he did nothing to Shaniya but now all of a sudden he is too crazy to stand trial. He is making a mockery out of the judge, the prosecutors and our justice system!

  • orangemoonlite Apr 26, 2013

    OMG - whatever...

  • dollibug Apr 26, 2013

Perhaps the *death penalty* cause the hallucinations.

  • free2bme Apr 26, 2013

So sad, that that victims get little consideration with our justice system. Criminals are protected, taken care of on tax payers dollars, get free medical/dental care, food and shelter, then excuses to get out of taking responsibility for their actions. I just hope McNeill does not end up out on the streets years from now harming some other innocent child. With the system we have in place, it is highly likely. Why is it taking years to see some type of trial for this 2009 murder is ridiculous? We need change in out justice system badly.

  • aprilhunter220 Apr 26, 2013

That is why they need to let polygraph tests into court. Yes some people can pass them even if they are guilty but most don't. I wish that when mean, evil people do bad they would just stand up and take their punishment. What a shame for Shania if he gets off.
What about her sorry mama? She should never see the light of day again either.

  • sillymee Apr 26, 2013

I believe this man IS hallucinating. He knows he is guilty as sin. He knows what he did to this little girl and God knows!! His conscience is on overdrive. Good nuff!!

  • welfarequeen Apr 26, 2013

Oh no ! not the insanity thing. He is playing the system to get out of his convictions. Oh please don't fall for this act. blue devil2

I find the anger and hostility being shown towards a person who may very well be delusional shocking. Mental illness is real. If this man is found not guilty by reason of insanity, it doesn't mean that he walks. In fact, most mental patients wind up serving longer sentences in hospitals than they would in prison. Personally, I would rather think that this man IS crazy! No sane person would do what he did. And if he is indeed mentally ill and has no understanding of his crime then he needs to be treated accordingly, and with compassion. Vengeance against the mentally ill is about as sick and stupid as the crime he committed. I thought compassion was a hallmark of Christianity and the whole "eye for an eye" thing was very old testament.

  • GingerTea Apr 26, 2013

I think they need to get a second opinion, preferably with someone who can tell bull cookies when they hear it.

  • AConservativePerson Apr 26, 2013

Can we say FAKER?! Anybody can come up with symptoms and fool doctors.

  • youpeoplearesoentertaining Apr 26, 2013

This was all part of the defense's plan....

  • Smiling Apr 26, 2013

There needs to be a law in place that says if you commit a crime (let's say murder)and use insanity, or any other mental disorder as an excuse, you are automatically sentenced to life in prison or the death penalty....No court, no jury, no judge, no wasting tax payer dollars!!

  • pat7 Apr 26, 2013

If you've never known anyone with narcissistic disorder, let me clue you in---they are never sorry for any wrong they caused. They are always number one and they are the BEST LIARS and actors you will ever meet. Self indulgent doesn't begin to describe them. That doesn't make them CRAZY...they are very smart !!!

  • Blue Devil 2 Apr 26, 2013

Oh no ! not the insanity thing. He is playing the system to get out of his convictions. Oh please don't fall for this act.

  • HANS FOR PRESIDENT!!!!! JK Apr 26, 2013

Well if he's delusional how can his attorney's stand by him telling them he's innocent. Such a shame it took this long to get no further in this case

  • Country Girlz Have MORE fun Apr 26, 2013

    as expected... sad

  • ThaTruth4 Apr 26, 2013

I don't usually say things like this, but I just can't resist... I'm having a hard time believing that this man is not competent enough to stand trial! That's what "I" (keyword is I), consider the lame-est (lol) excuse for 'after the fact'. I mean, I know it's ppl out there that really is incompetent, so for him to "act" like that NOW, is the part that 'they' should see. & the fact that he wasn't incompetent when he was selling drugs. He had sense enough to know his drugs, money, ppl that owed him & so on, so why the heck do they not go off of some1's past, you know, just to see, was that person like that before the crime or what?! Well, I'm glad they charged the mom, she def deserves it. We're praying for their families, no 1 deserves to feel that kinda pain.

  • Sister Golden Hair Apr 26, 2013

Excuses, excuses! The poor sick man. I know what I would wish happen to both of them but I won't say here. When I think about the last hours of that little girls life I feel ill.

  • wuffin Apr 26, 2013

Get him in the court room to face the consequences of his actions! NOW we know why he did not accept the plea deal. Sickening!

  • tsw9798 Apr 26, 2013

Sounds like bull to me :(
