  • stymieindurham Apr 26, 7:33 p.m.

tammydevans12 = perhaps that was what Dorothy Dix hospital was meant to be used for rather than a park.

  • tammydevans12 Apr 26, 7:27 p.m.

if he had a record of mental illness and had proof they wouldve declared him incompetent. I know this for a fact because a friend of mine burned her moms house down and she is certified crazy she takes meds and on top of that she has records that show she is crazy and she was supposed to get prison time she walked scott free no jail time (other than her time she spent in jail) no probation no nothing she got off that mental stuff does work in the juidical system

  • stymieindurham Apr 26, 7:14 p.m.

He WILL get justice when he makes it to prison as a child molestor and child murderer. AIN'T NO JUSTICE- AIN'T GONNA BE NO PEACE!!! How ya' like me now?!!!!!

  • Telman Apr 26, 6:48 p.m.

These crack-pot attorney's must have these idiotic psychologist's on speed dial. These crackpot attorneys are on the taxpayers dime, delays equal money.

  • jetset Apr 26, 6:33 p.m.

@CherryDarling--- I like all your comments. You are right. He is not crazy!! Dumb, maybe, by thinking sane people would not see the trick he was trying to pull on us. Well, I guess he did fool that "competent" psychologist.

  • cghsmom Apr 26, 6:05 p.m.

personality disorders do not mean you don't know right from wrong. This guy needs to be given the maximum punishment.

  • mfarmer1 Apr 26, 6:03 p.m.

    >> "Accused child killer deemed competent for trial"
Good, Lets Get This Show Started.

  • stymieindurham Apr 26, 5:37 p.m.

These crack-pot attorney's must have these idiotic psychologist's on speed dial.

  • mojaintsmall Apr 26, 5:35 p.m.

Contrary to the opinion on here he is allowed to use any and all legal efforts in his defense. Which is lawyer is choosing to do. The legal system will in the end go through its steps and processes and hopefully come to a just and fair conclusion.

  • Dr.Whew... Apr 26, 5:30 p.m.

    right on !

  • Scubagirl Apr 26, 5:29 p.m.

    "He found this animal competent.

That's what was needed for a fair trial to proceed and to close one avenue he and his attorneys might later try to file an appeal on.

This determination is exactly what we wanted to get this dead abused child justice.

So why do you think it's the wrong determination?
    Iak Hsehpen"

BECAUSE when I made my post he had NOT been deemed competent and the psychologist was saying he was NOT. That's why. The JUDGE is the one who said he was competent NOT the psychologist.

  • itsyoureternalsoul Apr 26, 5:29 p.m.

I would not pay any attention to important people either if it meant I could get away with avoiding pain (justice I richly deserve)

  • Scubagirl Apr 26, 5:25 p.m.

THANK GOD the Judge is smart! What a waste of time and money that was.

  • sunshine1040 Apr 26, 5:18 p.m.

How much more money are we going to spend on this piece of trash before he is sentenced to life without parole. Death would be great but then we would have all the appeals to pay for

  • timexliving Apr 26, 5:12 p.m.

Time for this guy to take a dirt nap.

  • pgonz62 Apr 26, 5:11 p.m.

Okay he tried the incompetent card, and fooled one Psychologist Hilkey, that apparently needs to see a Psychologist himself if he fell for that ploy. There's only one card left he can play. But it's not going to work either. Is he competent to stand trial and did he know and understand what he was doing, you can bet your bottom dollar he did. He just figured he could get away with it. I just wish they would let me dole out the Justice for him and that THING, that killed that precious little angel.

  • Run4orest Apr 26, 4:54 p.m.

Lots of knuckle headed comments here as usual.

That said, I do think justice will prevail here. I don't support the death penalty, but this depraved act is certianly worthy of it!!

  • zenonx6 Apr 26, 4:53 p.m.

There sure are some pathetic humans in this world..

  • North Carolina Cutie Apr 26, 4:50 p.m.

  • Obamacare survives Apr 26, 4:43 p.m.

Get this trash through the legal system and onto his permanent home.

  • jwjsdj Apr 26, 4:43 p.m.

Surprise NCAAP hasn't Jumped in. Since the only ones they care about is the Criminals, Not those who REALLY Need the Help.

  • davisbaby Apr 26, 4:33 p.m.

Calm down people! He tried, it didn't work, trial will go on.

  • jscott13 Apr 26, 4:31 p.m.

Ha ha. Just another failed tactic by his lawyer to delay the inevitable.

  • zenonx6 Apr 26, 4:00 p.m.

The future of the USA there people... The no good are out multiplying the good...The governmnet subsidizes it... Think about it...

  • lec02572 Apr 26, 3:58 p.m.

Nice try, but that isn't going to fly. Should have taken the deal before trial.

  • ellengraham5660 Apr 26, 3:55 p.m.

zariez-----unfortunately, you are 100% correct......the system is geared for the perpetrator......no rights for the victim.

  • ellengraham5660 Apr 26, 3:54 p.m.

Glad the judge ruled this way. This maggot has got to go......

  • marciamal1 Apr 26, 3:41 p.m.

Delusional – oh my gosh! Maybe it’s his conscious – knowing what he did to this innocent girl (can you imagine the last few minutes of her life – what she went through as a 5 year old child) and the mother, should be ashamed of herself but, knowing what type of people these two are – I don’t think it really bothers them what they did. It was only to benefit their drug habit and poor Shania paid with her life. From day one of this murder, it has made me so sick to think that these two scumbags could do this to a 5 year old. A girl that had a future ahead of her and one that would have probably contributed a lot in life. I pray the jurors come back with a “guilty” verdict – because these two certainly don’t need to live their lives. I hope Shania spreads her wings and shines in the courtroom. May these two scumbags experience the pain that they so much deserve.

  • OutofControl Apr 26, 3:33 p.m.

general population will take good care of him.

  • seanlondajackson Apr 26, 3:27 p.m.

He need a straight up whuppin!

  • zariez12 Apr 26, 3:21 p.m.

Welcome to the court system. He will be found guilty maybe get a death penalty. Sit on death row for 20-30 years costing tax payers $100,000 a year, watching TV, getting 3 meals a day, amazing healthcare, and a free education. Sorry, the justice system does not work.

  • Relic Apr 26, 3:16 p.m.

    Surprise, surprise...

  • free2bme Apr 26, 3:13 p.m.

Thank you Judge Ammons. It is time that criminals face the consequences of their actions. One of the most beautiful angels imaginable was horrifically murdered and it is time to get some justice for her.

  • vile garbage Apr 26, 3:13 p.m.

LOL. It's coming, you can't stop it. You earned it.

  • losthorizon63 Apr 26, 3:00 p.m.

"...James Hilkey diagnosed McNeill with schizotypal personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder and a narcissistic personality after meeting with him for more than two hours last Saturday at the request of defense attorneys."

Gee ... the only thing he left out was him having a bad day.

We get it. McNeil doesn't like being around people. But you know what? Once found guilty he won't have to be around all that many people when they put him in protective custody at Central Prison.

If he is found guilty, we all when. He gets some isolation to help manage his mental defect and we in turn get a killer off the streets.

  • Southern Girl Apr 26, 2:55 p.m.

Thank goodness somebody came to their senses. I remember the first day he went before the judge with a grin on his face. Hope he gets the maximum.

  • hpr641 Apr 26, 2:51 p.m.

First I heard of the plan for an insanity defense, I assumed they meant at the time of the killing ... forgetting, that they could simply mean he's insane now. Explains the withdrawl of the guilty plea.

A mother sells her daughter to pay a drug bill, plus the Dr. Kermit Gosnell real-life horror show (aka, "trial") going on in Philly, and you really gotta fear for the children of this country.

  • CherryDarling Apr 26, 2:47 p.m.

beach2011 - totally agree! SHE IS AS GUILTY AS HE IS!!!

  • peaceout Apr 26, 2:41 p.m.

good call...no "rational" human would commit such an act...jackwagon.

  • jackflash123 Apr 26, 2:37 p.m.

"Good for the Judge, let the accused feel the heat!"
"Good for the judge on ruling that he's competent!!"
    "Loving you, Judge Ammons!!!"

I think these are really misguided statements, and of the mindset that would blame the Judge if he ruled something contrary to what any of you want. The Judge didn't decide he was competent b/c he's a good judge; the facts said McNeill was competent. The Judge ruled based on that. A lot of people here decide w/o any knowledge or expertise what they think is right, and instead of modifying what they believe based on what the people who actually do have expertise determine, they assume decisions that run contrary to their own half-baked, reactive opinions are somehow corrupt.

  • beach2011 Apr 26, 2:33 p.m.

WHY does she not get the death penalty if convicted - she sold her to him to begin with!!!!!!!!!

  • Glass Half Full Apr 26, 2:30 p.m.

Good. Glad they'e not buying his excuses. Good riddance. I so wish I were on that jury.

  • jy2 Apr 26, 2:30 p.m.

Someone needs to take James Hilkey's practice license away immediately. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize this guy was faking his delusions!

  • racheliza Apr 26, 2:25 p.m.

Uhh, I'm not going to accuse you of being a racist... but that's a pretty borderline culturally insensitive statement. Dreads might not be a classy look in your world, but they're not illegal and aren't any sign of disrespect. I mean, come on- if you don't like someone's hair, that means something is wrong w/ that person? Come on...

    Amen!!

  • wake_up_jeff_0 Apr 26, 2:24 p.m.

This dude is just playing with the system to make tax payers pay more $$$$....Ok he turned down a plea deal for Life in Prison...He knows that they are gonna seek the Death Sentence...BUT there is a halt on executions right now...So Basically he will end up with Life in Prison just like the Plea Deal he turned down but after a LOOONNGG drawn out trial...

  • johnnybgood Apr 26, 2:24 p.m.

@welfarequeen. if you are so concerned about this sub-human maybe you should go visit him in prison and console him. Yes, there are those who suffer from mental illness and those folks tend to have those issues documented prior to committing a crime. This isn't the case for this piece of trash.

  • jackflash123 Apr 26, 2:23 p.m.

"...his image makes me sick!! Force him to cut those awful dreadlocks and clean his act up out of respect for the court.....can't go in there looking that way as a juror, so why should he be able to?"

Uhh, I'm not going to accuse you of being a racist... but that's a pretty borderline culturally insensitive statement. • If the shoe fits.... Apr 26, 2:22 p.m.

Declared competent! I now have increased faith in our judicial system. May justice proceed. (I would like to be seated on that jury....)

  • jetset Apr 26, 2:22 p.m.

Is he mentally SICK?? Why no, he is NOT. Is he EVIL? Yes, he is! I guess the judge saw right through both the psychologist and the prey! Thank goodness. The psychologist's license should be taken for awhile. How dare he go along with this nonsense.
