You would know if your kid was brain injured to this extent after 3 days. Charge 'em both.

I know Steve and he is a good person, praying for the baby, and the situation as a whole!

Child abuse is not a "soldier" issue. It is a parenting issue. I have worked firsthand with many families where child abuse is an issue. It happens in every socioecomic class, every racial and ethnic background. Having grown up in the military, yes, there were families were one of the parents was abusive, but this is not because the parent was a soldier.

  • yinyangtkdgirl Apr 3, 2013

I'm not sure how some of you are saying the mother should be charged when I saw nothing in the story that indicated that the mother was involved or even knew what he had done.

She may not have actually harmed the baby herself, but there is no way the father inflicted those injuries without her knowing. Waiting three days to seek medical attention? She is just as responsible.

  • 82d Airborne Apr 3, 2013

People, please do not begin with the "soldiers are evil" routine, every soldier that has stood a post to keep your freedom alive should be respected and given the benefit of the justice system working for the truth.
For the one intellectual that said "These soldiers....all they know is abuse and violence." I believe that you would never be able to write that if we soldiers had not been violent and abusive towards those that look to take just that away from you or in fact just ask how evil we are to those people that have been saved from hell in those countries where they wish they had soldiers to protect their voice, to you I say YOU ARE QUITE WELCOME and don't worry because all of us soldiers will stand a post for you no matter what you say, sleep well my fellow American? A US soldier is on duty for you all day and night!

all of you people are sitting here acting like Steve and Krystal are monsters... they are not.. they are BOTH INNOCENT!!!!! only true ignorance can believe everything that they hear/read on the news.. you people are the ones who are sick.. i just read lie after lie in this 1 little news feed. and for the ignorant ones who say he will claim ptsd just because he is a soldier. go get a life.. not every soldier does that.. and if he was gonna claim ptsd he would have done it already..

I think some "intellectually challenged" people are probably very good, loving, caring and responsible parents. They rear their child well and teach it right from wrong ~ even though they may not be the smartest pea in the pod.

Likewise, I think some Mensa folks (genius IQ) may have no clue how to rear a child. May not treat it well and maybe not teach it right from wrong.

I think some truly poor people may do a wonderful job, rearing their children. Always being there and being a good parent.

I think some rich people may have no clue what to do, and while they can afford to provide the extras, they do not provide the most important things: Love and direction.

Please notice I used the word SOME, in every paragraph. Obviously, not all people are like this, but there are some, in every group!

"These soldiers....all they know is abuse and violence."

What kind of comment is that? What an ignorant thing to say? Not all soldiers are like that.

  • chrisnrali Apr 2, 2013

Unless he admitted to it, I hope they have some evidence it was him and not the mother. It's wrong to assume that it was the father and never the mother.

  • BigUNCFan Apr 2, 2013

Unfortunately if the baby lives, he may not have a normal life and may have a life filled with disabilities and pain. It is so sad.

  • BigUNCFan Apr 2, 2013

    such a shame.

I personally could care if this man worshipped Satan, was a Saint, a decorated Military guy or a minister! He deserves life with NO chance of parole. NONE! EVER!

IF this baby dies, then this man deserves the death penalty!

This type of thing boggles the mind! Well, those of us who HAVE a mind! I think people who do this, have no soul. They are incredibly sick. Mean. Horrible!!

  • Sherlock Apr 2, 2013

Has the mother been charge as well? She is as responsible for the injuries.

  • johnny2times Apr 2, 2013

Here comes the excuses of PTSD...coward.

  • Fireflies Rock Apr 2, 2013

if guilty, this father is a disgrace to his uniform and humanity. That poor infant, if he survives, will most likely have limitations forever as a result. I hope the doctor's can perform a miracle here.

  • davidthegnome Apr 2, 2013

It takes a real POS to abuse a child. Based on what info is provided here, I don't think they should charge the mom. For all we know, he could have been abusing her too and refusing to let her leave with the baby.

  • LovemyPirates Apr 2, 2013

Sadly, if this baby has "major brain injuries", he/she isn't likely to be okay.

  • sap0953 Apr 2, 2013

5 weeks old....what is wrong with people!!!!

  • ncwolf08 Apr 2, 2013

Lock them both up and throw away the key. There is absolutely no excuse for abusing a 5-week old baby. At that age, all the baby could do was cry...and, as the parents, they should have consoled the baby...not beat it. I have no sympathy for a crime such as this. Lock them up and throw away with the key. And, please be sure to let the other inmates know what their crimes are and stand back and let them get their just punishments. These two had to know where babies come from, so if they didn't want a baby, they should have taken precautions. God, please help that baby!!! And, I hope the two of them get everything they deserve.

  • Scubagirl Apr 2, 2013

Hope the baby survives, what a sad story. YES, both parents should be arrested AND charged w/ child abuse and endangerment. If baby dies then change that to murder

  • kimisufu Apr 2, 2013

I don't see how anyone can intentionally hurt a newborn like that. Makes me angry.

  • cbiga220 Apr 2, 2013

Both mother and father should be arrested, hope the baby makes it
