Is there not an ordinance on the books for letting a pet deface city, county or state property? She should be given a ticket for letting her pet deface public property.
ifcdirector Mar 15, 7:14 p.m.
Just another horrible carpetbagging harpy here to let her dog urinate on property paid for by North Carolina tax dollars.

Grand Union: "Its extremely unlikely requirements of the original donation of the land is enforceable"
I suggest that you learn about something before you comment about it.
The land was purchased by the State, and the construction costs were paid for by bonds.
Bonds. You know, those things that the State sells under an implied contract that the money will go for a specific purpose.
The State of North Carolina built the hospital through an implied contract with the Citizens of North Carolina with no end date set for that contract.
Purdue did not have the authority to void that contract and redirect the profit from those bond purchases for another purpose other than the one the bonds were sold under.
Therefore, the contract Purdue entered into with the city of Raleigh is illegal. Neither party had the legal authority to take State property that was held under a previous contract entered into by the State, and with The People of North Carolina, [the bonds], and re-purpose it.

Ms. Baldwin is apparently a very crude woman- Let's hope she got down on her hands and knees and clean and scrubbed the mess she left on the peoples house, the legislature- You are a vile woman Ms. Baldwin. Furthermore, Ms. Baldwin as an elected official with the public trust why is it OK for the state not to get fair market value? Does it block a sweetheart deal for you, and possible ill gotten gains? You are disgusting- resign- go home and make beds.

ifcdirector Mar 15, 4:53 p.m.
By defacing state property on purpose..... Typical classless liberal democrat. By her logic everyone tired of the liberal drivel she has imposed on us and taken out of our wallets should be rewarded by pet rest stops in her yard.

Its fitting since that what is what the NC GOP is doing to their promises of reforming state governemnt, making it more accountable and efficient! Not to mention smaller and respect for individual rights.

A Democrat politician showed what she's all about. WRAL reported it. Which really is less professional??

"You can already go to Dorothea Dix with your dog to play, it's wide open. How is spending taxpayer money going to improve your experience at an open field? Turning this into a legitimate park would probably do more harm than good."
LOl thats not what the GOP want to do.....if they get their way there will be a small remnant left as a park and the rest will be condos and mcmansions and the last major open space in the city will be gone forever.
Grand Union Mar 15, 4:38 p.m.
"Mary-Ann Baldwin's behavior is emblematic of what Democrats have been to the citizens of our state for the past 100 years."
Lol look up the word Dixiecrat. Todays GOP are the Democrats of the south before the civil rights era.
Grand Union Mar 15, 4:36 p.m.
"Wow. This Democratic councilwoman is so upset and says: "It’s beyond me how lawmakers, who are supposed to uphold the law, can think they can undo a legally binding contract". But she completely ignores that when Dix was first created the state got the land in a deal that agreed to keep a mental health facility there "forever".
Its extremely unlikely requirements of the original donation of the land is enforceable because "forever" is clearly impossible.
But the GOP are free to take that to court if they like......at taxpayers expense....again.
gkgreene Mar 15, 4:36 p.m.
Maybe she is auditioning for a position on the Wake County School Board - looks like she would fit in.
Actually glad that the legislature did reverse this - how much would the lease payments be for all of the offices. Lets see 2500 people x 15 sf / person x $20 / sf = $750k per year. Way to go Bev with that lease - great deal for a few inside the beltline but bad deal for North Carolina.
Good idea to consolidate offices at one location where the State already owns several buildings and land. Also note that legislature also plans to offer some of the land as a park at market price. Thank you
mmtlash Mar 15, 4:31 p.m.
so some ppl think it's ok for the government to sweep in whenever they please and terminate legal contracts on a whim? If you have signed a lease you think it's ok for the govt to come in whenever they please and terminate the agreement or increase the cost just b/c the legal and binding contract was completed under a prior administration? If legal contracts can be terminated w/o cause and w/o any penalties why even bother with them?
Grand Union Mar 15, 4:23 p.m.
And thus the mentality of the lefties is demonstrated. This was a lousy deal for the true owners of the property; the taxpayers. That property should be sold to a developer at REAL MARKET VALUE.
And that mentality is why the GOP is doomed. They know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
ykm Mar 15, 4:21 p.m.
blacksuv This is an example of why lots of us don't do raleigh. Your not alone.

But she completely ignores that when Dix was first created the state got the land in a deal that agreed to keep a mental health facility there "forever". Apparently Democrats are only concerned with honoring obligations when they are ones that they themselves pushed through ignoring commitments that were made to everyone else.

And thus the mentality of the lefties is demonstrated. This was a lousy deal for the true owners of the property; the taxpayers. That property should be sold to a developer at REAL MARKET VALUE. You want a destination park, FINE, let Disney or Six Flags or some other major operator come in, buy the property and develop it. That will generate private sector jobs and will generate plenty of tax revenue. Instead of this being another burden placed on Raleigh taxpayers and WAKE COUNTY taxpayers, it would be a benefit. In addition to the dollars such a place would generate it would fill hotel rooms and restaurants and be another incentive to help sell usage of the Convention center. All accomplished without robbing the taxpayer.
momeeee Mar 15, 3:57 p.m.
I believe Bev broke the contract with Dorthea Dix when she designated the land be used for mental health.
curiousgeorgia Mar 15, 3:54 p.m.
Well, that explains why Raleigh is such a mess now. I hope she gets voted out! How puerile. I hope her dog tears up her favorite potted plants.

Tell it to the GM bondholders.

williams6 Mar 15, 3:42 p.m.
I believe that the Legislature is upholding the law. I believe the legal precedent dates back to the mid 1800's, when the land was deeded to North Carolina for the purpose of caring for the state's mentally ill. It was a "Directed" gift. I applaud the Legislature's overturn of this illegal lease agreement.

Wonder what charges I'd face if I allowed my pets to deficate on GOVERNMENT property. She should be fined/charged, then removed from office for improper conduct.
Unacceptable, this is the behavior of a child.

@dwntwnboy2 - no, I mean the American Tobacco Trail that stretches from RALEIGH to Durham...
The trail is located in the heart of North Carolina - Raleigh, Durham, and Cary - as well as parts of Chatham County. The route currently meanders through Wake and Durham counties with the Chatham county segment under construction.

Yea, the problem is we don't have enough parks. if we had more parks there would be less crime, less homnelessnes, less unemployed, more jobs, lower taxes. Yea we need more parks....thats the answer!!!!!!!!

Oh wait a minute...

"Elected officials are supposed to act with some decorum."
So charging into the legislature and Governor's mansion and passing laws to summarily rip up contracts, throw out duly appointed boards with terms to serve, and other incredible things is what you think it 'decorum'? The GOP has proven itself to be brutish, crude, unchristian, and downright mean spirited. Maybe they have decorum; I'm thinking not really.
