4STRIKES.....when will the GOP abolsih the tyranny of not being able to buy alcohol before noon on Sunday? Im glad they know when its best for people to tan, what terminal cancer patients can put in their own body to feel better, when a nip is appropiate. Nevermind. You are nothing but a misinformed partisan hack.

You forgot, one party wants to control every aspect of people lives, right down to making all of their healthcare decisions for them. The other beleives in freedom. - 4STRIKES

This is hilarious. Which party in NC is banning tanning, a plant, and areolas?

  • Deep Thought Feb 28, 2:34 p.m.

Why is it OK for republicans to pull any dirty trick and tell any lie they want but just let Democrats even talk about doing it and the republicans start having heart attacks. Get over yourselves.

  • miseem Feb 28, 1:39 p.m.

4strikes - appropriate tag. You missed on all 4 statements.

  • djofraleigh Feb 28, 1:34 p.m.

I'm a Democrat, but there is an ugly element in the party that has to hide its intentions and actions. At one time, Democrats held the moral high ground, I think, but no more. We're a dirty little bunch of ruthless politicians, no better than republicans.

The real culprits are we sheepish voters who don't read/watch varied enough political views and vote uninformed for the party rather than the person or the position.

All in all, we have better government than we deserve. Thank investigative reporting for that.

"The only tangible difference is which segments of the population the parties want the spending and taxing to shoulder the burden." happymom

You forgot, one party wants to control every aspect of people lives, right down to making all of their healthcare decisions for them. The other beleives in freedom. One party wants to disarm law abiding citizens, one wants to abide by the constitution. One wants to allow full and easy access to abortion and make the taxpayers pay for it even if they find it morally wrong, one doesn't....Are those differences tangible in your book or is that just trivial to you?

  • happymom Feb 28, 12:00 p.m.

"there have always been heated debates in this country. The problem is only the average citizens are polarized. The two parties aren't actually all that different. They need each other. They are both all about taxing and spending. It's a distraction and a charade and it works very well."

I agree. I've said something similar many times. The only tangible difference is which segments of the population the parties want the spending and taxing to shoulder the burden.

The polarization is happening in the populace. Liberals and conservatives demonize each other. I can disagree with a person's politics and still see him or her as a good person. It's only when we can really listen to one another that we can make a change. Unfortunately, no one seems to be willing to do that anymore.

  • ILoveDowntownRaleigh Feb 28, 11:32 a.m.

"The most offensive part of this whole circus is that ANY groups like these (lib or con) receive taxpayer funding! I truly appreciate freedom of speech in America, but since when does public money need to be used to 'support' it? I don't expect NC to pay for me to say what I already have the right to say. I certainly don't expect to give public money to groups that want to amplify what they say by using taxpayer money." - pause to consider

Indeed. All my life, I have witnessed tax-exempt churches spending money and organizing political demonstrations in brazen disregard for 501-c3 laws which allow their tax-exempt status. I watched it with my own eyes in downtown Raleigh just weeks ago.

Out of thanks and respect for the very good things these churches do in our community, I will not name names - but I could. My point is: failure to enforce c3 and c4 laws emboldens extremists (of all political persuasions) to flaunt those laws. Consider the Westboro Baptist church case.

Yes, exactly what I would expect from a party of hatred like democrats." Damien Thorne

It's on the first page of their playbook. In fact the person that first brought it up here just happens to be solidly anti-republican, anti-tea party and he originally stated that he was at this tea party rally....yeah, right

  • rlee1117 Feb 28, 11:26 a.m.

Why not enact a law that take the money given to these programs of hate and spend in on things that all the taxpayers can benefit from like paying our bills or creating jobs! Free speech is not always the law cause if it was people would not be getting fired from their jobs over telling the boss what you feel. You have the right to free speech only if you are part of certain groups only. How can it be "free speech" when the taxpayers are footing the money to them?

"This whole incident shows how much out of tune with this country all politicans are. It's a memo. A MEMO. Nothing..." important

It is an example of how all liberals operate.

  • 4Strikes Feb 28, 11:02 a.m.

" Evidently you do not know many liberals...(yadda yadda, blah blah)...someone who cares about the welfare of the people--their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties,,,(more nonsense) if that is what they mean by “a liberal”, then I’m proud to say I’m a liberal." ccsmith1902

Rhetoric and talking points aside, liberals are the party of hate and will use any means necessary to gain power. If that's what you support then yes, you have a lot to be proud of. Perhaps instead of looking ahead ALL of the time, you should look back once in a while at the long line of failures, poverty and misery in your wake.

  • BubbaDukeforPresident Feb 28, 11:01 a.m.

NC-Interest - you obviously did not read the intent of the memo. It was meant to gather all special interest groups and have them coordinate attacks and invent smear campaigns. They know this is a successful tactic because the GOP is overly sensitive to perceptions that have nothing to do with reality.

Let's face it, if people repeat a lie often enough, other people will believe it. We're a shallow society, short on common sense and big on whining.

  • Mr. Middle of the Road Feb 28, 10:52 a.m.

I personally condemn these sort of actions. I may not agree with much the current administration has done but will support them for the good of the state. If I express my displeasure, it will be in the voting booth. I understand how democracy works.

This whole incident shows how much out of tune with this country all politicans are. It's a memo. A MEMO. Nothing important. However the chicken little brigades are out in force. No wonder this country is in such sad shape. Would be a good thing for all politicans to be fired and replaced with decent people.

  • BubbaDukeforPresident Feb 28, 10:37 a.m.

The GOP can do no worse than the Democrats. And let's not forget, a lot of North Carolina's problems really only started under Easley and Perdue during a period when North Carolina was ranked at the top of the best places to live and work in America. Liberals, fleeing the high tax states of California and New York flooded our area and brought their demands for the same failed economic policies that put their home states into bankruptcy. Let's not forget, until 2008, North Carolina was a red state when it came to the national elections. It's the northern aggressors and the left coast whiners who have cost North Carolinians jobs and brought higher taxes.

  • beachboater Feb 28, 10:35 a.m.

Tax exempt organizations are not allowed to participate in political lobbying or any other activity to influence legislation. If they do, they become a different type of organization.

I sure as heck don't want to pay (with my tax dollars) for anyone form either party to go on a smear campaign of the other party. They can raise their own money for that.

  • ccsmith1902 Feb 28, 10:34 a.m.

The politics of personal destruction, lying is ok, the ends justify the means, class warfare. These are the staples of the Democratic platform for the past 20 years or so. Now that their party is in power and failing miserably, the new mantra is "oh, it's the political polarization that is ripping this country in two..." They honestly want conservatives to become morally and ethically bankrupt like liberals so we can all get along. That is their idea of compromise. Now that Americans are getting to see the true colors of the liberals, things will change. Hence, the panic.

That could be a huge conflict of interest.
