Lets see, BLoomberg makes it illegal to buy 2 liter sodas with a pizza, S.F. in calf. makes it illegal to buy meat on Mondays, now this. Why do people want the government in their lives?

    @vinylcarwraps,

I always paid federal taxes in my 27 years in the army. I guess I paid your taxes too. Well, that's obama's wealth redeistribution plan I guess.

I support this law.....tanning does nothing but harm for most people but it is ironic that its the small gov GOP thats passing it......

    goldenosprey,

You'll wish you hadn't said that once obama care is in full fling and you're paying out of the wazoo for below standard healthcare, unless, you're one of the 47%

Im in the Air FOrce. When I was active how much Fed taxes should I pay? I remember when I was 19 I paid zero Fed taxes and Bush gave me a $300 check. Never heard the word "socialism" then. Odd. He was re-elected. LOL I love the two party sheep.

Where were these liberals when obama slapped a 20% tax on tanning beds to pay for his obama care?

Your comment has nothing to do with the fact that Republicnas are creating laws to protect people from themselves. Should we put tanning meters on beaches and have cops patrol the meters so people dont sit out in the sun too long? When does it stop? The GOP banned areolas and a shot down a medical plant. LOL a PLANT!!! Maybe you should get off the ideologies and turned towards liberty. This law is BIG gov. Period. Lib this lib that, Cons this Cons that. Divisive people.

This progressive was saying 20% was not enough. Skin Cancer costs the rest of us who use sunscreen money when I gotta subsidize The Situation's premiums.

It's also ironic this legislation is opposed by conservatives who tend to be old and white - the ones most threatened by the sun's rays, and in their minds, anyway, dark skin.

I have many friends and family who have skin cancer, family history of skin cancer and one died from skin cancer. I do believe this bill should pass. I don't want my kids tanning without my consent nor should they be under 18 with parent consent.

  • goldenosprey Feb 27, 11:41 a.m.

Protecting minors should not be a partisan issue. Do y'all have problems with drinking ages? driving ages? smoking ages? Do you want your kiddies watching R and NC-17 movies?

Sun exposure early in life can permanently damage skin and it is a proven fact teens don't have a fully developed sense of risk management. No sensible parent would allow their kids to tan in tanning beds. This is just a common sense help to parents in an age where two fulltime working parents are needed to get by.

  • NYtoNC81 Feb 27, 10:24 a.m.

GOP won this state, so they can do what they want.

But next time a registered Republican complains about "big government" liberals can I laugh in their face?

  • Let-it-be-said Feb 27, 9:06 a.m.

Personal opinions aside allenmosby is right. THis is a parental/personal decision the government should have no say in. Too many laws, its becoming land of the not so free.

  • HDStreetGlide Feb 27, 8:42 a.m.

Here we go again the Gov. in our business again!!! This is for the parents to allow or not allow. I guess all these people under age 18 should not be allowed to enjoy the Sun either?? Studies say that the Sun rays cause cancer too!!! I agree vinylcarwraps23..

  • kornfan2448 Feb 26, 10:06 p.m.

Fast food causes or contributes to acne, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and so on in teens, maybe the legislature should ban that as well. Teens are killed in car accidents everyday, maybe they should be banned from driving as well? What a joke and waste of time and money this is!

"Teenagers have no business tanning, and dont have enough sense to know better, when they are teens. That is why they should be guided and told what to do, until their brains are at least fully developed." "rindyelvis"

I agree 100%, but it should be the parents responsibility to do this. Not the government. I think that the current requirement for parental consent for teens between 14 and 17 is sufficient regulation.

This is what "less gov" looks like and job creation. LOL

  • Minarchist Feb 26, 4:27 p.m.

I think this is a great idea for teens especially because their skin is more sensitive to tanning beds and sunlight. No 14-17 year old needs to go to the tanning bed anyway.

Thats not you or the gov decision. Mind your business. This is the parents job!

  • davisgw Feb 26, 4:21 p.m.

With all the REAL and important things to deal with our elected officials chose this. What a waste. Next they will want to try and control how much teens can spend in natural sunlight.
