The ACLU just looking for something to justify their reason for being nothing more.

  • atheistswillrule Feb 26, 6:02 p.m.

How can it be racial profiling when the problem lies completely with one group of people! People wake up! lwe1967

Huh?!!!!!! You can't be serious. Do you have even the slightest comprehension of what you just wrote? That's the very essence of profiling EINSTEIN!!!!!!!!! When you say "the problem lies completely with one group of people" and "How can it be racial profiling" in the same sentence. Really? Every computer screen in the Triangle dimmed a bit when you posted that dumb illogical statement.

  • lwe1967 Feb 26, 5:48 p.m.

In my opinion, the ACLU is an obnoxious organization and should be banned. They are trying to undermine every aspect of the laws in this Country. How can it be racial profiling when the problem lies completely with one group of people! People wake up! I hope that State legislatures will ban the ACLU before they bury us!

  • 75Tarheel Feb 26, 5:38 p.m.

I don't have that to worry about. I'm a law abiding citizen. Not so with ILLEGAL ALIENS.

    Profile away LEO's.

  • eric52272 Feb 26, 4:40 p.m.

Can anyone tell me how you would enforce immigration laws without racial profiling? I mean the entire job of an immigration official requires profiling.......

  • mustainemad Feb 26, 3:48 p.m.

    somebody needs to consider it...

  • BaseBallMommy Feb 26, 3:29 p.m.

Am I the only one that thinks this is crazy? We have a huge issue with Mexicans coming into the US illegally. So if you see a Mexican than ask for papers to show he/she islegal. If someone said a white lady with brown hair did something illegal then they should look for at all white women with brown hair. Common sense!!!

  • NYtoNC81 Feb 26, 3:19 p.m.

Morrigan: Neither should whites, but we are. Just ask the proud illegals who threaten to take "back" this country by force. Or the blacks whose leaders periodically stir up another cash grab from whites. Or the Indians who are still complaining that whites came here illegally.

Me: I'm sorry, but how are we held accountable? I have no "white guilt" as some might say, but I've never been inconvenienced at all because of my skin color being white either.

You're using extreme examples (admittedly one's that I've never even heard of -- especially American Indians) to justify discriminatory monitoring of other groups.

And again, in Arizona, they weren't targeting legal citizens obviously because that would be counterproductive to what they were trying to do. But by targeting an entire race, they were mistakenly creating headaches (and in some cases arrest) for plenty of legal citizens who did nothing wrong but exist and look differently than you or me.

  • bngexpress Feb 26, 3:02 p.m.

sorry folks but if it looks like a duck , walks like a duck , talks like a duck (and cannot provide legal proof that said duck is suppose to be here ) , and it is my job to remove the ducks that are breaking the law to stay here , then yes sir i will stop every single duck i see. the end!

  • tonycheeek Feb 26, 2:36 p.m.

"I ask you all again, would you have a problem if on the way to work every single morning you were pulled over and questioned for something even though you did nothing wrong?" ~ NYtoNC81

This statement sounds too incredibly anecdotal be be factual or reasonable. Try again.

  • Terkel Feb 26, 2:09 p.m.

"I'm sorry but I should not be held accountable, even at that level, for the sins of people who might be the same shade of color as me." NYTONC

Neither should whites, but we are. Just ask the proud illegals who threaten to take "back" this country by force. Or the blacks whose leaders periodically stir up another cash grab from whites. Or the Indians who are still complaining that whites came here illegally.

  • Terkel Feb 26, 2:04 p.m.

"And those American Hispanics who were targeted did nothing at all wrong." NYTONC

Legal citizens, yes? Targeted, yes? I ask again who is deliberately targeting legal citizens. And I AM sure I worded your claim correctly.

  • pelosi-rulz Feb 26, 1:41 p.m.

But they are just here for a better life. Geez just because 3 out of ever 4 are criminals doesn't mean anything lol.... wow the liberal mind set is scary

  • NYtoNC81 Feb 26, 1:37 p.m.

ncouterbanks69: LOL...you have to break the law to be a criminal. That is exactly what these leeches on our economy are doing.

Me: Are you being intentionally obtuse? Racial profiling, by definition, singles out a ton of innocent people and subjects them to unreasonable inconveniences. I'm sorry but I should not be held accountable, even at that level, for the sins of people who might be the same shade of color as me.

  • NYtoNC81 Feb 26, 1:35 p.m.

Morrigan: nytoNC, who is deliberately targeting legal citizens? That's right, NO ONE.

Me: I'm not sure you worded that correctly. Of course they aren't deliberately targeting legal citizens. That would be counterproductive.

But by racially profiling (and again, I'm not saying this is happening, but it certainly has. Specifically, in Arizona) the fact is many innocent and legal American citizens are pulled over for no good reason.

I ask you all again, would you have a problem if on the way to work every single morning you were pulled over and questioned for something even though you did nothing wrong?

  • brassy Feb 26, 1:18 p.m.

The last paragraph says it all.

  • ncouterbanks69 Feb 26, 1:15 p.m.

Until someone decides you are the “criminal,” right?

LOL...you have to break the law to be a criminal. That is exactly what these leeches on our economy are doing.

  • Rebelyell55 Feb 26, 1:11 p.m.

Who cares, the DHS are releasing them anyway. How can it be racial profiling, many who are Latino, put down on driver license and census that they're white.

  • Terkel Feb 26, 12:56 p.m.

No one's required to prove they were born here. They must prove they're here legally. Not always the same thing.

  • Scubagirl Feb 26, 12:53 p.m.

"Approximately 75 percent of people deported in the southern region were convicted criminals – 66 percent were serious offenders. Of the remaining who were deported, he said, nearly 1,500 had been previously convicted of DWI offenses."

So let me get this straight. profiling is bad, but LETTING THIS TYPE OF PEOPLE INTO OUR COUNTRY IS GOOD???????? SMH

  • Terkel Feb 26, 12:52 p.m.

nytoNC, who is deliberately targeting legal citizens? That's right, NO ONE.

  • wa4mjf Feb 26, 12:48 p.m.

It would not make sense just to look for one race of illegal aliens, which of the three would you look for?

  • working for deadbeats Feb 26, 12:43 p.m.

The quota should be all of them.

  • SaltyOldJarhead Feb 26, 12:37 p.m.

I oppose anything called "An Atlanta Area" that includes North Carolina.

It should be a "North Carolina area" that just happens to include Atlanta....

  • rjt083172 Feb 26, 12:37 p.m.

Criminals and illegals have more rights in this country than I do being born here 40 years ago. My parents are US born also. Looks like we are the minority now. Looks like I will have to quit my job and commit crimes to get our great President to help me out. If racial profiling is bad then tell the groups being profiled to quit breaking the law!!!

  • PanthersFan45 Feb 26, 12:31 p.m.

"ICE was basically working under quotas," Pinto said. "They had to meet a certain number of deportations on a yearly basis or else there could be consequences."

I agree .... there shouldn't be a set number of deportations to meet. We should deport ALL who are here illegally, not just a "quota" amount per year. We need to do MORE.

  • epee131 Feb 26, 12:30 p.m.

i challenge anyone on this board who is against the ACLU to reach into your pocket and pull out your birth certificate. If you can't, then when you were arrested, you can't prove you were born here. So you must be illegal. See, thats the problem. It isnt about protecting the illegals, its about protecting us. And no, there isnt some big database of US citizens.

  • WooHoo2You Feb 26, 12:23 p.m.

Racial profiling to catch criminals is perfectly fine with me. IN fact I encourage it.

    GO LEO's!-75Tarheel

Until someone decides you are the “criminal,” right?

  • 75Tarheel Feb 26, 12:03 p.m.

Racial profiling to catch criminals is perfectly fine with me. IN fact I encourage it.

    GO LEO's!

  • jeffjohnson123 Feb 26, 11:08 a.m.

ACLU, just another PAC, and one that has no concern for National borders. Why should anyone care what they have to say in this issue?

  • tonycheeek Feb 26, 11:03 a.m.

Leave it to the ACLU to try and convince you "reasonable" isn`t reasonable.

  • Rebelyell55 Feb 26, 10:10 a.m.

Don't sound too bad to me, they trying to get the crimminals out and that what they should do. The reason they couldn't get more is that too many counties in NC will not participate in the Fed's program to ID crimminals who are illegal and have them removed. These counties LEO let them go even if they don't agree with the county com. That's why the crimminal element move into certain counties more than others.

  • streetglide Feb 26, 9:59 a.m.

this is another group or organization that this country could do without and has served its usefullnes, along with the NAACP, both organizations are outdated and very un-organized without direction and are no longer needed in this country.

  • NYtoNC81 Feb 26, 9:56 a.m.

ncouterbanks69: Oh no not evil white males! If you have nothing to hide you should be good to go. If you get pulled you did something illegal anyway. That is nothing short of an excuse to protect criminals.

Me: Evil white males? Huh, my point is the exact opposite of that.

Maybe you're OK with having part of your day being wasted for no reason but the way you look, but lord knows I wouldn't want to have that happen to me.

And those American Hispanics who were targeted did nothing at all wrong. Not a thing.

I'm all for the deportation of illegals but certainly not at the expense of my rights and liberties.

  • For the U.S.A. Feb 26, 9:49 a.m.

They just can not understand the term :illegal" can they!! This is what is the real problem. Enforce our laws!!

  • bngexpress Feb 26, 9:23 a.m.

this is just one more attempt by the ACLU , and the criminal immigrant advocates , to keep their message in the news and in front of everybody. Deportation is the manor in which we deal with the criminal immigrant population.

  • Crumps Br0ther Feb 26, 9:19 a.m.

Meh, I was racially profiled after 9/11 and Im white. i was going through airport security and got picked for extra scrutiny. I believe it was because I was a 20 something male with facial hair. As soon as I shaved I was never picked again. Strange but true.

  • ncouterbanks69 Feb 26, 9:00 a.m.

It's akin to a white male being pulled over every day on the way to work and being subjected to car searches and me saying, "Well, if you have nothing to hide, why do you care?"

Oh no not evil white males! If you have nothing to hide you should be good to go. If you get pulled you did something illegal anyway. That is nothing short of an excuse to protect criminals.

  • working for deadbeats Feb 26, 8:15 a.m.

People who want illegals here should be required to house and feed them on their dime. Let's see how many will put their money where there mouth is. My guess is none.

  • OneNationUnderGod Feb 26, 8:07 a.m.

Maybe thats why the emails had titles and/or phrases such as "criminal alien removals"...Whats wrong with removing criminals regardless of color, race, creed etc...???
Furthermore, the statement by the gentleman they interviewed that these types of programs "breed racial profiling" is completely subjective speculation and personal opinion. Quite frankly its about time we start enforcing some of the solid laws we already have on the books on a state and national level instead of campaining for new and useless laws.

  • working for deadbeats Feb 26, 8:05 a.m.

Whatever gets the job done. If you don't want your family torn apart, don't break immigration laws with them. It's truly that simple.

  • Disabled Vet Feb 26, 8:04 a.m.

Why is it that they are totally ignoring the word "Illegal" and jus focusing on the word race? Illegal is illegal regardless of race!

  • mep Feb 25, 7:48 p.m.

If illegal immigrants are profiled based on race.... AND it means more are deported.... well done. Illegal says it all.

  • josephlawrence43 Feb 25, 7:32 p.m.

Which is what they are supposed to do--uphold and enforce our LAWS.

  • Terkel Feb 25, 7:32 p.m.

Sounds like govt agencies pooling their resources and working together for the preservation of the common good. I fail to see the problem.

  • westernwake1 Feb 25, 7:16 p.m.

So what's the problem? Law enforcement, DMV, ICE, and all other government agencies should be focussed on deporting people not living in our country legally. This is what I pay my tax dollars for.

  • stymieindurham Feb 25, 7:09 p.m.

"The DMV Project involved getting access to a listing of denied driver's license applications and temporary licenses issued to foreign-born applicants."

    And your point is . . . . .?
