If they have no kid in public school while working full time, none of them qualified.

Expertise in the field of education is precisely why a board separate from other government entities was created.

What? Maybe in your mind. The expertise in educating is the job of the school system employees, not the board. The board is to provide oversight and policy direction, based on the wishes of their constituients. They are there to keep the educators in touch with what the comminity wants.

And you have a problem with the police investigating itself but, you don't have a problem with the schoolboard overseeing itself?!!!

That's the angle I am coming from.

Is having people totally unfit to serve in board of education seats in the taxpayers best interest?

That's up to the voters in a given district as to who they think is fit. The board is a representation of the publics wishes as to how their schools are run.

By the way, non-democrats need not apply!!

And you have a problem with the police investigating itself but, you don't have a problem with the schoolboard overseeing itself?!!! I don't get that one.

"Having people from the education community oversee the education community is not in the taxpayers best interest." - btneast

Is having people totally unfit to serve in board of education seats in the taxpayers best interest? Do we really want another Goldman or Evans?

Maybe it is time for some adult supervision of the Wake County School Board provided by members with educational public service experience. While I may not agree with the 'political views' of some of the candidates, most of them have years of experience serving in the public educational sector in oversight positions. More importantly - all of them act like adults when serving the public.

The LAST thing we need is LIBERAL left-winger Linda Gunter. She is an education lobbyist. As much as I hate to say it, I'd take Bill Fletcher over her.

Hopefully they will get someone who really cares about education and not getting thier name or picture in the paper on on TV.

"Having people from the education community oversee the education community is not in the taxpayers best interest. It's the fox watching the henhouse. "

You mean, like having Jim Womack chair the Fracking Board?

"The "board" should be made up from people from all walks of life."

Why? Expertise in the field of education is precisely why a board separate from other government entities was created. You might as well leave it to the partisan hacks in the County Commissioner's office, or the first 7 names in the phone book.

Well, the first 7 names, anyway.
