Excellent point!!! Frankly, if Big Gov is going to help pay for education, they should provide financial incentives for only engineering and science degrees. Real science - not social science.

This comment above makes no sense and makes me angry, quite frankly. If a smart person cannot afford to go to college, and they don't go, they won't be able to get a good enough paying job to purchase this home that.. "they cannot afford".. because.. they did not go to college. This person is saying only those with enough money can get ahead in this country...I've got choice words for you, but they won't pass the guidelines here...

We as a country need to totally rethink how we approach education, from pre-K all the way up to doctorate degrees. Spending $10,000 per year per child, then they can't read their own high school diplomas. Then they go $150,000 in debt to earn degrees in social work, communications, women's studies, and liberal arts, which will give them just enough skills to run hot water through ground-up beans. This is an unsustainable model that will collapse at some point.

I really wish someone would education people that say these kinds of things. Unless it is money being given by a PRIVATE individual, then there is NO FREE. Money from the government is taken from other people or worse yet, is borrowed.

Close to 60 percent more borrowed by students this year vs. 10 years ago. Of course it's sustainable!!

What they "fail" to mention is yes, people are borrowing more money but they are also receiving refunds off of this money to live off of; there is probably not a way to figure out if the money they borrow is just toward tuition or not.

and of course you do realize the free phone meme originated through policies by Ronald Reagan and furthered by George Bush, Junior, right?

We have learned of late that a President is not responsible for what happens during their term. Bush nor Obama are.

As for phones. I am good with free landlines for an emergency and even a cellphone for the same reason.. but why do they need minutes ? All cellphones, by law, have to be in service for 911 calls if there is a service provider or not. Just take an old phone from the drawer and power it up and see. You can dial 911... So why do the cellphones come with minutes ??
